NJCU ABSN 2020

Published

Hi everyone - I am considering applying for the Jersey City NJCU ABSN program starting in 2020. Has anyone submitted their application?

@nursingjewel I received the same last night, and then a copy of the handbook this morning. I am struggling because I need to give my current job notice and if the program is going to end up getting delayed, I don't want to do that just yet. Trying to figure out the best course of action with the information available which isn't much ?

@Rachaelauren18 same here. I wish we could know what the schedule would look like so I can plan around it.

I really do not understand why we can't just start the non-clinical portion of the program at the regularly scheduled date or close to it. I just hope everything could get started by the end of May. I know RU medical students are doing clinicals online. Unless NJCU somehow does not have the resources, I do not understand the point in postponing the start date =(

I definitely agree with you regarding starting classes online, I don’t see why there would be an issue with that. I get why they wouldn’t wanna do clinical online though, since we have such a short period of time to have actual clinical experience in 12 months. It’s definitely frustrating right now.. and I feel like the email vibe is that they don’t want to answer any questions. Which I get to a certain extent but I feel so in limbo right now.

I’m attending RU in May and applied to NJCU JC. It seems we are starting on time, but all online. I’m a but surprised NJCU doesn’t have a plan or idea what they can do especially with a September start. I’ve pretty much given up on the idea of getting an answer from NJCU In general. No word from them for JC at al yet.

I’m hoping that they will eventually figure out (sooner rather than later) what they’re gonna do and that it’ll be online. I fully understand their dedication to getting the current cohort sorted but at the same time, it’s a little alarming that there aren’t resources to figure out BOTH the current and upcoming cohort at once.

Absolutely. I think for an ABSN student, the wait and see approach is painful. We have to quit our jobs and make big plans to accommodate such a rigorous program. I am praying we see the light at the end of this pandemic tunnel here in a few weeks and that a plan can be made.

Hey all, just an update... I requested to be a member of the NJCU 2019-2020 accelerated NJCU facebook group and was accepted. I asked what NJCU was doing in terms of clinicals... this was a current student’s response... “The ruling through the nursing board is that a minimum of 50% of clinical hours must be in person. Students are currently banned from hospitals across the state so we are waiting for the word of when we can get back in, but our clinicals are pushed back into the Summer and potentially affecting our graduation. Unfortunately we all have to go with the flow right now, there’s not much else we can do.”

Jeez I can’t imagine how devastating it must be to be so close to graduation and have it possibly be pushed back.

I know... just to mention that this was from the JC NJCU cohort, not Wall. Since we know that Wall is only a few weeks away from graduation and they started earlier than JC, I wonder how much longer the Wall campus will be delayed from their graduation. I would hope not too far into the Summer. Who knows....

I agree, it's frustrating. I'm mostly upset because I already had to resign from my current job to give a certain amount of days notice per my contract and now I'm going to have unpaid/dead time. But unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it and I don't think complaining helps. So just trying to stay healthy and focus on the positives.

Hello! I’m going to do the same exact thing. Backup plan LOL. Do you know which Chemistry can be taken online? It’ll be too late to wait for the fall and take it at a community college as the deadline is in October.

If you need a Chemistry course over the Summer, I can give you some pointers on where to find a good online one. It saddens me to see students' plans delayed since they are unable to locate a course. I always make my Chemistry and physics courses available each term.

Also @Chelly2628 sorry for the delay. Go to portage learning. You can take the course on that site. Albeit its a little pricey, but worth it
