The application for NJCU is open for both Wall and Jersey City! I thought I would make a thread for this years round of applicants. We can share our experience with NursingCAS and the HESI.
Hope y'all find this!
Hey chabraha I am happy for you!! I started crying when I got the email hahaha I think I met you before from looking at your profile picture. Did you go and take the HESI on Feb 5th? I know weird thing to ask lol I have not heard anything from them if they received my deposit or not. I think it said in the email that they would give us a call if they did not receive anything by the deadline. I called the financial aid office and they informed me that once they receive the deposit and the filled out FAFSA then they will send out the offers for aid.
Hi jaja777,
I had the same question and I think it is separate from the tuition. On the website it says to be ready to put down $2500 for books and uniforms, but it doesn't say it is include like the $500 deposit. I wish we could know what books we need so I can start shopping around and look for the cheapest one.
I live in Morristown so the commute isn't too bad but I am thinking of living near campus to make things easier since we will be getting there so early (during rush hour) and going back home during rush hour. This is nerve-racking, but exciting as well. Does anyone want to meet up before the orientation?
I called NJCU yesterday to see if they received my acceptance & deposit for JC since I hadn't heard from them and the person who answered was like "Oh I don't know if [person we were told to send everything to] has that information... and she's out until the end of the month on vacation." :/
Hi jaja777,I had the same question and I think it is separate from the tuition. I know it's a bit nerve wracking not hearing much from JC but according to my recollection the $500 deposit will be credited to the tuition. According to the Bursar's Office, total cost of attendance is around $11000 per semester. I'm getting next to nothing in federal aid and so I'm buying searching for grants, scholarships etc before I make the step toward private loans. After several talks with the Financial Aid office. I was told by one individual that there is hardly anything out there in terms of grants, scholarship etc and that private loan is apparently the path taken by most. Any said that the nursing department pretty much determines what aid is given. On speaking with someone in nursing, they said that it's a financial aid issue. At this point, I'm pretty confused as what is what and I'm wondering if maybe it's best to just wait until orientation.
I'm doing it in May 25th :/ the only time I could find to do the full course everything else was for renewal. I am a bit confused about the uniforms. In the email it said that at orientation they are going to fit us for the uniforms. Do we order them then and have the money ready on that day?
Jaja777- I have been "shopping" around and private loans should definitely be the last resort. When I went to some banks to have an estimate done and the fixed interest rate depending on your credit score can range from 6.7-11.99% and it starts to accumulate as soon as they distribute the money to the school. That is a very high interest rate compare to my federal loans which are 5% at most. I already am paying student loans from undergrad and I am so worried about all the tuition.
There are programs like the AmeriCorp which is like the PeaceCorp, but you would work in the USA. I am not sure though if you would earn less than the average for a nurse which is usually $50,000 depending the area. Also, once you get a year of experience you can become a traveling nurse which they pay for housing and food. That gives you enough money to pay off your student loans since it takes a huge financial burden of rent and other expenses. Unfortunately, there are not that many scholarships that I found that students in accelerated programs can qualify for.
Yes, sure is a jungle out there when it comes to the scholarship/grants for us accels. Many predators out there too!
I'm gonna look more at these, Americorp etc. NJClass does not seem too bad. Would Love To meet up with you guys but too many things going on with me now. I have to sort many things out, I'm working against time. Seems we have time but before we know it September will be here.

hey! I don't live too far from JC so I will be commuting. I'm down the parkway a little in Clark, so not too bad of a commute either.
