So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does.
Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).
Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!
Iï¸ went to the ABSN admissions event tonight to check out the campus and spoke with Dr. J. She said they just finished up with Wall, and have barely started on Jersey City so expect an answer more towards the end of April! But she said they will definitely all be out by then, because they want to have orientation in May or June.
How was the information session? I registered, but was unable to attend because of my night class. Did you like the campus, staff and program?
Iï¸ did! The campus is small, but the buildings seem fairly new. We didn't get a tour but I walked around a little on my own. They said you will need a car to get to clinicals, and parking seems a little tough, but they have a few student lots. The staff/faculty seemed great, very collegial with each other. The program seems doable, they really emphasize that it's nearly impossible to have a job. They said the first semester will be five days of classes, second and third semester will be 4 days of classes and most likely a Saturday or Sunday clinical. They mentioned you could be going down as far south as the Jersey shore for clinicals, even though they try to keep the Jersey City ones up north.

I just thought that I would pass this info along because I don't think a lot of people know how the admission process works for this school.

Interesting does that 1,500 number apply to both programs or just NJCU? I wonder how many applications are in Wall...
Hi all. I applied to JC campus. Second time applying, still nervous. I don't know how I missed the info session, but I've been to so many already so I'm not worried.
I wonder if this number is truly only for JC because this number seems a bit high. I was under the impression there would be around 500-700 applicants for JC. I am way more nervous now as well!!! :/
I just received an e-mail from NJCU saying the following...
Dear Applicant,
Your application is currently being reviewed. Due to the high volume of applications for the Jersey City campus, there has been an unexpected delay with finalizing the admission decisions. An approximate date decisions will be finalized is unavailable at this time. Please refrain from emailing and/or contacting the office by phone to determine the status of your application. All applicants will receive an admission decision notification through NursingCAS email correspondence immediately following the final selection.
If there are any questions regarding your application, you will receive an email via NursingCAS correspondence.
Thank you again for your continued patience during this very busy time.
Same email as last year. They just don't want people hassling them with calls about application status when they said 6-8 weeks. People stop calling them lol
