Hi Aspiring Nurses,
So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does.
Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).
Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!

Hey guys.
Just another nervous student waiting on the result for JC ABSN result.
I am not so familiar with nursingcas so I wanted to make sure if my application was done right.
I graduated undergrad with BS on 2015 with gpa of 2.9 (i know it's terrible )
so I went to community colleges to take additional science course and I took around 8 classes all with GPA of 4.0
I submitted both transcripts from colleges and they do show in my application but when nursingcas calculated the cumulative GPA they did not take into consideration of the courses I took at the community college and they still show it as 2.9.
Is it because I'm not going for a degree at the community college they did not take it into account?
I'm so lost if I should call nursingcas since it's probably too late..
Heyo all,
This is my second time applying to this program as well and this is my #1 program I wanna get into. My prereqs are strong, however, I did repeat a lot of them to get that A. My GPA is also very low as well. Just made the cut so I'm not sure how things will turn out so you can imagine how desperate I am to get in. But to my surprise, I actually got into a bsn program over at touro college which is relatively new. But I'm only given 2 weeks to send in my nonrefundable deposit to secure my spot. Does anyone have any advice?

I think you should secure your spot with the other school just in case. Especially if you applied to NJCU with the same academic record you had last time you applied. It's funny cuz I'm actually in the same boat with you. I also had to repeat my prerequisites and also did not have the best GPA in my undergrad. But I also have an LPN with over a year of actual nursing experience under my belt. I hope that will mean something to the admission committee but now I'm doubtful because admission is also point-based. I wish they were more upfront about how they actually determine admission to the school.

What do you mean point based?
And this time around, it's a different academic record. So last year I applied with low gpa and low prereq grades, but now it's low gpa and strong prereq grades with a year of healthcare experience as a PT tech.
@jazminjfuertes Like you need a number of points for admission like a 4.0 gpa= 4 points towards admission, and 3.8 gpa= 3.8 points towards admission. 80%-85% on the hesi is 2 points and 90-100% is 3 point towards admission. An A in a course is 3 pts but A in a repeated course is 1.5. Or ok healthcare experience is 2 points towards admission. These are made up numbers but I've seen this system before. It makes the admission process less personable. It's like yeah they will consider your lower gpa but it won't earn more "Points" then someone with a higher GPA if you get what I'm saying. They add the total number of points per application, so let's say your application based off the point system is 45 pts and another application is 60 points. They are going to go with the person with more points. It make sense for them to do it this way because of the number of applicants they get.
@Jazminfuertes is the deposit a couple hundred? I would just wait as long as possible ( in your case I would wait out the 2 weeks) and hopefully, by then we would know if we got accepted. I woudn't want you to loose your deposit, but if by the 2 weeks we havent heard anything I would definately give in the deposit.
@Tinyspoons thats exaclty what I remember them saying in the info session regarding the number of applicants. I remember them saying something like Wall usually getting around 250 and JC 500. Do you remember these numbers as well or am I delirious lol. And, yes you are right, regardless of the number of applicants it is still nerve-wracking to say the least!
Good luck to everyone!

I haven't heard of the point system but I know for a fact they HEAVILY consider the HESI grade and the science grades but other than that I don't know how it works. Also @letmeintroducemyself, the same thing happened on my GPA verification on NursingCAS but it was the opposite. I did not see a cumulative GPA for Rutgers which is where I graduated from but I have one from the community college where I retook some of the prereqs that expired.
@jazminjfuertes Is the BSN program at Touro an accelerated track or did they transfer a lot of your undergradute courses?
Did anyone put supporting information for the NursingCas application, I sort've skipped that part because it was so repetitive with my resume... but I hope it doesn't affect my 'points' That's so weird if they base it on a point system, because than it's pretty subjective with letters of recommendation and the personal statement...

@prossano SAME!! I was going to go on, and forget that I am expecting an e-mail, but this anxiety is really bad LOL
Is anyone applying to other ABSN programs? I am working on Seton Hall's direct-entry MSN program, and Rutger's ABSN. I need to start this new chapter by Fall 2018...
