NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort

Published

Hi Aspiring Nurses,

So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does. ;)

Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).

Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!

I got the email as well. I just called them 15 minutes prior to ask about the deadline delay and they said 4-6 weeks AFTER that email.. So thats like end of April or beginning of May

I wonder if it would be sooner, but they estimate it by 4-6 weeks from today, so that we won't bother them with meeting a specific deadline.. if that makes any sense lol, I'm sure they're probably stressed to have to go through the hundreds of applications.

Does anyone know hypothetically when we would have to give them a decision back upon being accepted?

I was looking at last years forum and the year previously. It seemed like the decision were given out mid-April. They must have really gotten a lot of applicants because this delay seems to be later than usual.

I was going to say the same thing, Last year they sent the delay on 4/12 but gave out decisions on 4/17... we must be all the way behind. But somehow I believe it will be sooner than 4 to 6 weeks lol

I received that email today too while at work and I was so scared to open it!!! Hopefully soon!! Best of lucky!!

I think so too, the info session I went to was March 22, and she said they had just started then. She also said they will try to be done with decisions by end of April because they plan for orientations in May or June. So I imagine the deposit deadline has to be earlier than that.

damn i didn't get that email... should i be concerned? I did get this email wayyyy back in march:

Dear Applicant,

Your application is currently being reviewed. Due to the high volume of applications for the Jersey City campus, there has been an unexpected delay with finalizing the admission decisions. An approximate date decisions will be finalized is unavailable at this time. Please refrain from emailing and/or contacting the office by phone to determine the status of your application. All applicants will receive an admission decision notification through NursingCAS email correspondence immediately following the final selection.

If there are any questions regarding your application, you will receive an email via NursingCAS correspondence.

Thank you again for your continued patience during this very busy time.

Good Luck!

@jazminjfuertes I think that's the e-mail we all just received!!

Crossing my fingers to know by the end of this month 3

I'm applying to Rutgers and the application is not due until June 1st, I don't know how this is all going to work out...

My heart dropped again... When I saw the email below from NJCU. Has anyone heard anything? Hold on everyone; I know what you are all feeling; we are all in this together!

Join us online for a Virtual Information Session on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 5:00 p.m., to learn how our Accelerated BSN Nursing program at NJCU can help prepare you for a rewarding career in nursing!

During this session, you will have an opportunity to interact with nursing faculty and admissions staff to get all of your questions answered, including coursework, our program locations in Jersey City and Wall, the application process and more.

It is quite frustrating. Any communication about the application process at this point would help alleviate some worry. I wish they knew what we were going through emotionally.

Im sure they are just as overworked and anxious as we are! Imagine having to only choose 60 candidates out of thousands of amazing applications! On top of selecting I'm sure they are between teaching courses.

So just found out I was rejected. Goodluck to everyone else.
