NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort

Published

Hi Aspiring Nurses,

So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does. ;)

Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).

Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!

I haven't heard of the point system but I know for a fact they HEAVILY consider the HESI grade and the science grades but other than that I don't know how it works. Also @letmeintroducemyself, the same thing happened on my GPA verification on NursingCAS but it was the opposite. I did not see a cumulative GPA for Rutgers which is where I graduated from but I have one from the community college where I retook some of the prereqs that expired.

@jazminjfuertes Is the BSN program at Touro an accelerated track or did they transfer a lot of your undergradute courses?

Where are you all seeing GPA verification?

Did anyone put supporting information for the NursingCas application, I sort've skipped that part because it was so repetitive with my resume... but I hope it doesn't affect my 'points' :( That's so weird if they base it on a point system, because than it's pretty subjective with letters of recommendation and the personal statement...

I wish I did... I got an administrative F from a professor that wanted to know more about my personal life than actually grade my final exam and failed me. because no one wanted to "burn bridges" with this very influential individual (who had recently stepped down to be a professor)..the school did nothing to correct this. I never earned that F and if I wasnt a poor college student battling homelessness at the time, I would have sued

however years later I retook the course and got an A of course

Hello!

Has anyone received a decision yet?

I can't believe the date had been delayed! So anxious :/

Do they send acceptance, rejection, waiting list emails all on the same day?

Hi all. This is the 6th week since the deadline passed for NjCu fall ABSN. Has anyone heard from the school yet?

Haven't heard anything yet! When I spoke to Dr. J at the info session in a March, she said to expect JC admissions decisions at the end of April. Then we got that notice that they were delayed, so figure we still have 2+ weeks to wait, sadly.

I received that letter too on 3/26. That was two weeks ago . The wait continues.....

Just got an email saying my application is complete and being reviewed by a committee.

I tried to copy and paste the email but it won't let me... I nearly had a heart attack when I saw an email from them..

Good luck everyone

@Jamesc928

My heart dropped when I saw that e-mail as well. This is the e-mail I received... I'm going crazy!!!!

Dear Applicant,

Your application is complete and has been assigned to a committee member for review. An approximate date admission decisions will be finalized is unavailable at this time. Please refrain from emailing and/or contacting the office by phone to determine the status of your application. If there are any questions regarding your application, an Admission Committee member will contact you directly. Once admission decisions have been finalized, applicants will be notified of their admission status by NursingCAS email correspondence.

Good Luck!

Did anyone else get this email?

Yup, got the same email. Maybe their ears were burning! Guess we're still on track to hear back only by by the end of April.

When I saw the subject line I felt my heart in my stomach LOL at least we know they are currently reviewing our applications :)
