Hey everyone, I need help! I am looking to change jobs, becoming increasingly more frustrated in my current one. I feel trapped to say the least. I would really love to work in the NICU at NYP/Columbia, but they don't ever seem to have any openings. I wouldn't mind nights there either. If anyone has any connections to whom they could pass along my resume, I would be much obliged! I have a year's experience at a Level IV in NJ, graduated with a BSN from Johns Hopkins in '08 and BA from Hopkins in '07.
Please PM me if you can help me out! Thanks so much!
PA and south NJ would be a major pay cut for me, but I guess it depends on the situation. Perhaps if I like the job enough, it may make up for the difference.
Can anyone give me an idea of salary ranges for someone with 1+ years of experience in a NICU in NYC? Thanks.

NYP-Columbia now has at least 5-6 openings in the NICU... check again... if not, I can email my manager.
The salary here starts at around 74k, before you add in experience, education, certification and night shift diff. You'd probably make around 80k.
I just checked on nyp.com/careers in the search...nothing for an RN in the NICU. I see two for an NNP, and one for a Patient Care Director in the NICU. Would you mind asking your manager about it? Maybe I'm looking in wrong place?

Steve, I am a NYS RN - graduated with my ADN from SUNY (05/2008), and expect to graduate with my BSN from CUNY (05/2010) - excellent GPA both degrees. I have been working in Med/Surg since 06/2008. My original clinical specialty preference was the NICU before seasoned nurses told me I had to 'do time' in Med/Surg. Does NYP-Columbia still have openings? Will you feel comfortable recommending me to your manager?
If anyone is still looking for a NICU position, please PM me, and I will try and help you. We are supposed to be expanding our nursing staff from 180 to 250 in the next 1-2 years.
Steve, I am still looking. I am also new to the forum. I have a few more posts to go before I can PM anybody. Is it possible for you to PM me?

Hello to Steve and all the other members of this thread,
I am a RN,BA from Israel and my dream is to work in the NICU....
My question for you is, is it possible for a foreign nurse to become a NICU nurse in the States?
(I know i have to get my NCLEX, TOEFL, CGFNS done....)
What are the extra requirements for this job? and is it at all possible?
Thank you,
Yana

Steve, I sent you two PMs within a couple days of each other. However, I do not see them in my 'sent' folder. I am beginning to doubt if you received those PMs. Please let me know?
