  1. well, we acctually measure the distance between preemie's stomach to his ear and mouth....that's pretty 'on the spot'...and ofcourse verify it by the other methods you mentioned. we never use X-ray for NG tube insertin...
  2. At my hospital (north of Israel) you can't get fired for "silly" reasons...you have to be a bad nurse and lack every skill possible to get fired IF you have tenure....you obtain tenure after 2-3 years of work...and after that you can be moved to other wards but not fired. I know a nurse who almost killed her patient giving him the wrong med and the hospital didn't fire her 'cause she had 3-4 years left to her retirement- they just downgraded her from RN to CNA...but kept her high salary :)
  3. This thread is SO good that i started the same idea for my board exam in nursing in my country... i write down all kinds of random facts in a notebook and i remember it better. THANKS!!!
  4. hey all!!!! wow wow wow! i really love this thread...i will post something as soon as i start studying, i promise :)
  5. Hi there I am a nursing student from israel...and my dream is to work in a NICU. I'll give you some info about our path to the NICU... we have to finish school and become RN's...after that we can apply for a job in a NICU....and immidiatly or in a year or two start studying (for 1.5 years) a course called INTENSIVE CARE OF THE NEWBORN OR THE PREMATURE. it's a long program, twice a week, a 12 hour day of school. after that you may insert IV meds to the newborns and premees and what not. My question is for the USA NICU nurses...i heard about a grading system: I,II,III grade NICU nurses... can you tell me more about that and about the path to become a NICU nurse. Thank you! Yana
