Nipissing SPP 2018

World Canada CA Programs

Hi there! Just wanted to get in conctact with other applicants who are applying to the Scholar Practioner Program at Nipissing University.

We could use this thread to talk about different components of the application.

Cheers :)

I actually got in touch with someone whose currently enrolled in the SPP program and she said that the interviews are conducted with two interviewers from the institution that you chose as your first pick. She also said that last year there were 500 applicants, 100 got an interview and 44 were accepted!

That's terrifying! Only 44 people! I'm so scared now hahaha, I really want to make sure we do well in the rest of the interview aside from NI as well.

Omg! Good to know! Thank you for the info!

Ya! 100%! We need to do well during the whole portion! From the minute we step through the door!

Thanks again for the information!

I'm still in school and finishing up my last semester so I'm researching things about NI while trying to study for midterms and projects :notworthy:... but I'll try to do some more research. Does anyone know what kind of other questions they ask for the interview? Or any idea?

No clue! The NI question was the only thing outlined in the email!

I'm also finishing up school so I totally get the busy thing :( I'm not sure about other questions, but maybe since they have representatives of the placement we ranked they will ask us stuff about why we ranked that place first? Just brainstorming here... also maybe basic questions like why do you want to be a nurse, why this program, etc.

Good luck with your school things too! That would make sense that they ask those. May I ask which site you selected as your first choice?

Thanks, you too! I selected SickKids, but honestly found it hard to choose. But from my understanding if we get into the program you do your main placement with the number 1, but you still get to do the others!

I have interview on March 13th 9 am.

Just curious if anybody got a reply from Nipissing after RSVPing to the email regarding interviews?

Nope! But I called admissions and they said that their wouldn't be a reply, it was just to make sure we confirmed!

Hi everyone! I thought I would peep my head in here and let you guys know that I applied last year to Nipissing's SPP, and I was a part of the 2017 thread. I am currently a first year student in the program, and my home base (the main hospital you will be at), is SickKids. If you guys have any questions for me, feel free to ask and I'll answer them as best as I can!

Congrats to everyone who received an interview! Narrative Inquiry is a MAJOR theme of the program, and these words are used a thousand times a day during the Inquiry period of the program (which is always the first 3 weeks of every semester). Narrative Inquiry is basically how your story, or a patient's story for example, could affect their care when you are creating a care plan for them as a Nurse. Baiba Zarins (the program advisor), wrote an essay about Narrative Inquiry. So if you search that and read it, you will be golden on answering the Narrative Inquiry question! In my interview, they also asked me what my strengths were, if I ever had any previous experience in self-directed learning (such as a thesis in your undergrad), why you chose the hospitals/organizations you put as your first choice, and you will be answering questions based on your prep activity (which are written questions about past experiences you may have had based on a theme). I know they are doing more interviews than just the ones on the 12th, the interviews are all week I believe! I would not stress out too much about the interview, all the professors are friendly, normal people whom we call by their first names. Just be yourselves and try to exude as much confidence as you can.

Anyways, if you guys have any questions feel free to ask away. I look forward to hopefully working with some of you next year!
