Nipissing SPP 2018

Published

Hi there! Just wanted to get in conctact with other applicants who are applying to the Scholar Practioner Program at Nipissing University.

We could use this thread to talk about different components of the application.

Cheers :)

Ya! It seems as if they are wanting to get acceptances out earlier! Hope this is the case!

It's nice that we can connect on this forum!

That sounds fantastic! Hopefully I get accepted so I can go through this amazing experience as well

@futurenurse612 do you know if they solely use the interview and casper results to make the final decision? I was kind of taken back by my interview it was so short and I was kind of shocked by the questions, I thought there would be more emphasis on why we wanted to be a nurse, etc. I don't really understand how they could decide between so many applicants based on these short interviews. I'm hoping that they do take our personal statement, reference letter and grades into consideration as well.

I felt the same way! I totally expected a question about why nursing or something about our strengths. It was so focused on NI which is understandable but also felt super short

Good question! I am wondering the same! How long was your interview?

You guys had a "3-step" interview though right?

1st portion was the NI Presentation

2nd portion was questions about courage and self directed learning

3rd portion was why we choose SPP and we had to tell the interview about each placement

I was in there for about 20 mins -- but I also talk a lot! Lmao

Yup! LOL I think I took the same amount of time.

So many questions, it's great, I'm glad I can help! My interview was April 10th (I actually had to go back and look the date up!), and it was only about 15 minutes or so I believe, and I was asked the same questions. So you guys are probably correct that they may send out acceptances earlier, you never know! Other people in the program have some friends who are applying this year and we've been asking the faculty questions trying to get some answers, but everything is really hush hush so unfortunately even us first years can't find anything out for you guys! In terms of what they take into consideration, they do not really put an emphasis on any one aspect. The CASPER test was never even mentioned to us and we never found out how we did.

The faculty are looking for strong, independent learners who are looking for a different, hands on approach and experience for their Nursing degree. When you are in the program, they put a lot of emphasis on grades because depending on the organization, they sometimes take your GPA into account later on in the program when you are choosing your placements in your second year.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for your info and support! It helps me calm my nerves a bit! I appreciate it a lot! Hopefully we find out sooner, considering we did it about a month earlier than last year!

Hi I was wondering.. how much time do students usually spend downtown? I'll be living in the GTA if I get into the program so I'm trying to get a sense of whether or not students would be there until like 5 or 6pm. Basically trying to figure out whether I should have my gym be closer to where I live or closer to the campus.

Good question! I was wondering the same! Where are you from in the GTA? I'm in Vaughan!

I would also be in Vaughan. Not living there yet though. :) Thank goodness for the new subway extension!
