NOT A BREAST FEEDING DEBATE!!!

Have you noticed a faster peak with little rebound with formula vs. breastmilk babies? I understand that formula sits in the gut longer and binds to more bili, thus excreting more, but I haven't noticed a real big difference.

I haven't seen a difference. If there is, it can't be that dramatic.

That's the theory, although I don't have any numbers. It's also probably related to quantity, because mom doesn't have enough milk at first to bind to the bilirubin. The bili on a breast fed babe can continue to go up if it's not getting enough fluid. I have seen that happen.

I see what you mean Mimi. But how about when a baby is getting expressed breast milk?

Can't say that I have. Interesting thought though.

Anecdotally I have seen no difference.. but you know what that is worth. Good question to ask. Any research out there on this?
