I got an email yesterday from NYP/Columbia that I am selected as a "top candidate" and can skip the meet and greet and go to an interview with Nurse Leaders in June. Has anyone else received this now or in the past and could provide advice? I know the process is long being hired at such a premier hospital. Just wondering if anyone could give me some insight.
Thank you!
Mine only says future consideration for "Staff Nurse" and "2015 New Graduate Nurse Career Event - Drop Off Your Application Here". But I tried to type in my job ID and it lead me to exactly the specialty I was hoping to get (albeit an expired page from May '15) so its possibly for that certain position?
The questions were not difficult. Know your standard interview questions/prepare those answers. There were some situational/behavioral questions like "tell me about a time when..." or "if this happened, what would you do?" If you've prepared for a normal nursing interview you should be fine.
It took about a week after the interview to receive the mail about whether or not we were "top new grads"
Hey guys just wanted to say I went to the columbia event last tuesday and was offered a job in one of the departments I interviewed for less than 48 hours later. (Don't worry not the PICU )
So they ARE hiring new grads. I have zero connections or experience at NYP, just a solid resume.
Good luck and I hope to meet you guys in orientation!
Congrats on getting the offer! I'm assuming you took it?
If you don't mind telling us (you can answer as much or as little as you'd like)
Which hospital location were you offered a job in?
What were the next steps you had to take?
When is the start date/is it same or different for everyone?
What were you quoted in terms of salary?
I apologize for all the questions, I'm just anxious to hear back.
Hope to meet everyone soon!

Aypeng, I agree that it now seems as if it was a general interview. I wonder how they would know what other areas we'd be willing to take if we all interviewed with two specific managers. Now there are so many potential new grads, they wouldn't bother finding out what other floors people would be willing to take. Hmm.. I guess we will play the waiting game and search for other opportunities.
