New York Presbyterian/Columbia (NYP Email) New Grad

Published

I got an email yesterday from NYP/Columbia that I am selected as a "top candidate" and can skip the meet and greet and go to an interview with Nurse Leaders in June. Has anyone else received this now or in the past and could provide advice? I know the process is long being hired at such a premier hospital. Just wondering if anyone could give me some insight.

Thank you!

Did you use a particular reference book to answer the questions on the study guide?

No book in particular. Message me directly.

I private messaged you!

More than anything I want a job at NYP and there is no one I know of . I do not have any idea how to get my foot in the door!

yes! They ask a lot of whatever is on the study guide. Definitely just go in depth in going over the medications they gave you! like side effects, the way its metabolized so looking at kidney vs liver function; i only studied the study guide and my previous med calc stuff from nursing school and i got a 96! it's pretty straight forward but I definitely recommend studying the study guide for sure!! You will do fine!! Dont worry. Pharm wasn't my best in school either, especially on psych meds haha

When I go in for an interview, am I up against other new grads for the same position or is it just for the nurse manager or recruiter to determine if I myself am a good fit for that unit?

It depends.. it could be just you, or other new grads, internals, experienced. Also certain units may have more openings than just one, which would give you a better shot!

From my experience I was going against two other candidates and I end up being selected. I saw the candidates too. One interviewed before me and one after. If they select us for the interview, it's up to us to sell it.

How long did the interviews last and who did you meet with? Was the interview/the questions similar to the ones for the New Grad event (with the 2 managers)?

Sorry for all the questions, I finally have an interview coming up soon. Thank you for all your help!

Hi! Has anyone interviewed for the american mobile nursing position for new grads?

Not specifically about the interview but NYP answered some of my questions about the opportunity. I ended up declining the AMN offer but I hope this helps!

1. Typically you are assigned to a unit, but may be floated on occasion

2. You do not go through the NYP residency program

3. Not the same salary as if hired by NYP (my guess is likely much lower)

4. You are likely to be hired by NYP after 1 year (will not be an official NYP employee yet)

5. If you decline, you are still considered for new grad positions but they will not be able to guarantee when it will become available

good luck!

hi everyone, has anyone recently accepted an offer at NYP or been offered one?
