New York Prebyterian Pharmacology exam

If anyone was recently hired by New York Presbyterian Hospital, could you give men any pointers about the Pharmacolgy exam. Was it difficult? How did you study?

I have not taken it but I was told you need to know your heart meds like digoxin, hypertensive drugs, diuretics , no what are side effects digoxin,

like famous question one intructor says is they might give a drug calculation with dig just practive if doctors order this amount you have this what would it be how much is to much no you have to check dig levels like that

They should give you a study guide. Go over it well.

50% is calculations and conversions. 50% is drug knowledge. They give you 1-2 hours. I finished in 20 minutes.

a two hour test, that I finished in 20 minutes (including check).

is the pharmacology exam at nyp same as the one for st. luke's hospital? i'm about to take it soon... are the questions simular to the nclex one?

I have question about the pharm exam at St. Lukes. Do you have to take the nclex exam before you can take the pharm exam? The reason I ask is because I've been playing phone tag with the nurse recruiter from St. Lukes and in the last message I got from her she asked if i was interested in continuing with the pre-employment process and I was wondering if the pre-employment process included taking the pharm exam. hey delann! i passed the nclex before i applied for a job... actually i thought that was the only way... but yes i would assume you do have to take the nclex sooner or later, cuz you won't be able to practice as an RN... and yes you do have to take the pharmacology exam as well to be able to get a job at st. luke's. (at least that's what i was told) :uhoh21:

Hey thanks Jana P. That's what I was originally told as well, but I was a bit confused with what she meant by the pre-employment process. I suppose I'll clear that up when I talk to her. Congrats on passing nclex. As of this moment, I'm still waiting for my authorization to test. Wish me luck.

thx! yeah, i'm a little worried about getting a job since i have no experience... and i'm also wandering what's that pharm. exam like... what happens if i fail.. you're only allowed one re-take! they won't give you a job? just curious... :rolleyes:

I took the exam today and it was easy. There are 16 questions w/ calculations, 20 or so about administering meds, and 20 or so on side effects of common medications. I would say, don't worry. Once you sit in front of the test it all comes back to you.

thank you so much! i feel much better now... i've been going crazy studying these meds that i've never heard of... lol; do u remember any of the names of the medications they have been testing? also.. what hospital did u take it for?
