Job Prospects for New Nurses in NYC

U.S.A. New York

Hi all,

I have not even started classes yet for my Nursring Degree, so granted things may change by the time i am looking for a job, but nonetheless, I am curious about new grads getting jobs now in NYC hospitals.

Is there really such a great demand in this city for nurses where you can easily get a job where you want?

Are grades taken into consideration like they are in some fields (i.e. Wall Street).

Do some hospitals only take grads from the top schools?

What about experience? How does a new nurse get it?

Sorry for all the questions - just excited about my career change! THanks in advance everyone!

Sign up to have the free nursing magazines sent to your home: Nursing Spectrum (http://www.nursingspectrum.com) and Advance for Nurses (http://www.AdvanceforNurses.com) Then you can check out all the numerous job ads that say "new grads welcome!"

i'm a new RN grad who just got a job at Columbia Pres. In my recent job hunt, i've found that you can pretty much get a job in most hospitals. What may not be available to you as a new grad in some hospitals is critical care. they do however, have internships for the ER and PICU at NYPH. jt's advice was also good- those magazines have hundreds of listings and great articles. good luck!!!
