  1. hello everyone, this is a bit off the subject. i am an rn in nyc and i'm interested in starting a nurse staffing agency. if anyone has any level of expertise in this area and have any recommendations, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. thanks, amoymak
  2. Have you checked with your school to make sure that they have submitted all the necessary paperwork? This could be the reason for the delay.
  3. I Currently work in the MICU at Columbia Presbyterian. I started on a Med-Surg/ stepdown floor there. I was an LPN prior to becoming an RN so my initial preceptorship on the MS floor was more about learning the policies and how things were done on that unit. when I went to the MICU however, I was stressed- that's the only word for it. one very long, stressful 6 weeks- but I made it. You are gonna be terrified b/c it's normal- just prepare yourself by reading/reviewing, seek out learning opportunities, and ask questions. lastly, no matter what you do- always project confidence especially at the bedside- a pt needs to feel comfortable in the hands of a nurse. Cochran is an excellent school and we have been prepared by the best.good luck!!! what area are you going to be working in- specialty?? also- be extremely organized and prepared- find your niche in terms of what works for you ie. your own way of taking/giving report.
  4. Are you a Cochran grad? I graduated from Cochran in 2004.
  5. I haven't personally been there but I have heard from friends who are also Nurses that it's a nice hospital. Good Luck!!
  6. I am a graduate of Cochran. They have an excellent program and it doesn't amount to $20,000.00. The accelerated program is called "Fast Track". It 's for students who have a high GPA and/ or LPN's going into the program. The school is hospital based so it has a lot of clinicals and the NCLEX pass rate is > 95%.
  7. where is the hospit al located?
  8. it completely depends on the type of unit that you will be working on. if it's an acute unit, you may have a lot to do no matter what shift you work.on the other hand, when i worked on a med surg unit, i ran around with my head chopped off for much of the 12 hrs. like someone else mentioned, take whatever experience comes your way because as a new grad, it will be invaluable. good luck
  9. #1- 22 yrs #2- 23 yrs #3- 25 yrs Now we are done and they will all grow up together- wonderful:lol2:

This is heaven!! Thank you all so much!! This is invaluable info / resources to have. I have mark hammershmidt's book and I love it.
  11. my friend is a new grad and she is doing an internship which at the end of a year will place her in the picu. it was fairly easy for her to get in, they even advertise for nurses- columbia
  12. i'm a new RN grad who just got a job at Columbia Pres. In my recent job hunt, i've found that you can pretty much get a job in most hospitals. What may not be available to you as a new grad in some hospitals is critical care. they do however, have internships for the ER and PICU at NYPH. jt's advice was also good- those magazines have hundreds of listings and great articles. good luck!!!
