New student: Should I take anatomy and chemistry together?

Published

Hello, let me start off with a little about myself. I just decided recently to go back to school for nursing (I have my BS in psychology and have a pretty decent job, but its very stressful (I work with kids with severe behavior problelms and come home stressed at the end of the day, and some times even banged up from putting them in physical restraints! and im a pretty small girl) I have been out of school for almost four years.

My question is- does anyone have any experience taking anatomy and chemistry together and have any advice about whether or not to do it? I want to be able to start the nursing program by 2010 and if I don't take them together (or with physiology or microbiology) I wont be able to start until 2011. That just seems like a long time for a 2 year degree, when I already have all of my other pre-reqs done from my other degree. But then again I dont want to fail my first semester... Some other details about me, I am pretty horrible at math, I can usually pass anything if I put my mind to it, but I need A's in these classes, I have never taken such hard classes together, and havent taken a science in years. Anyways, thanks for your input, I just found out about this site and its great! The little icons are great too! :bowingpur Please! Advice! Classes start in two weeks!

Hell yesssss....no reason why you shouldnt take them together--chem wont help you for anatomy vice versa.

Plus, I have no choice. I need chem. to take physiology and microbiology. I'm getting all the study guides I could get to make it through.

I took A&P I with Micro. It was no biggie. I hated Chemistry, though, so I put that off to the very last :)

I just took AP1 and Chemistry together during Summer session. It was very busy. I made A's in both. I am taking AP2, micro and Psych in the Fall. I hope I can handle that while working part time.

So it's doable. Since I'll be working full-time I'll just atke the two Anat. & Chemistry. Thanks for the insight. You're super student taking the 3 in the Summer...

You'll be busy, but you can do it. You won't have much of a life in the process, but it's do-able.

Hire a tutor if you have to. A good tutor is worth their weight in gold.

Hello Ringoray,

I wanted to ask about how it was taking both Chemistry and Microbiology together? I too, want to apply to a nursing program this year and would like to double up on taking the science prereqs. I took Anatomy over the winterbreak and currently enrolled in a Chemistry class. If I was to take one class at a time, I won't be done until December 2010. I'd like to be done by the summer if possible. I have Chem, Micro and Physiology left to take. Just wanted to see how your experience has been in taking 2 science classes.

Thanks!

Next quarter I'm taking A&P2 (we're on a quarter system so we have 3 A&Ps), Micro, Nursing Chem, and...oh! An HTML fundamentals class. Since I'm taking 20 CR this quarter (A&P1, genchem1, French 1, Lifespan Psych), I don't think it'll be too bad. It really depends on how well you manage your time and (this sounds shallow) but how smart you are. My lowest grade right now is in A&P and it's a B. That's it. Everything else is a B+ or higher (and I have two As).

dezee06 - There isn't a problem taking two sciences as once. I took Micro, AP2 and Gen Psych together and got all A's. If I was in your situation, I would take Chem & Micro together but take Physiology separately.
