  1. I'm a month away from finishing my 2nd semester of nursing school. I make really good grades, but it has become pretty obvious that other students don't have to work as hard as I do (staying focused is impossible). It takes me so long to study, do care plans, or write papers. I can remember having the same problems since I was a kid. I feel like it has gotten worse recently because I'm having so much demanded of me now. I have a 4 1/2 year old and a newly 2 year old. My husband lost his mother almost a year ago, and he has been depressed for a long time now. I KNOW that I have ADHD, so I'm going to go see a doctor soon. I feel like I'm in way over my head. I'd write more, but, of course, I should really be studying for my test tomorrow..... Story of my life.
  2. It's not nearly as bad as what you think it will be like. I've had 4 days of clinicals, and I haven't done a single bed bath. I've helped the CNAs a good bit, and I have done an assessment on a patient. At least at my school, they seem like they're not trying to scare us off
  3. Is everyone getting excited??? It's starting so soon! I'm trying to enjoy the last little bit of the calm before the storm. I know it's going to be hard doing the concurrent program with 2 little kiddos, but I like a good challenge. :)
  4. I took A&P I with Micro. It was no biggie. I hated Chemistry, though, so I put that off to the very last :)
  5. You're so right! I do plan on continuing on, at some point. Thanks!
  6. Hi, I'm about to buy my Littmann, and I am thinking about what I'd like to have engraved on it (from medisave). I'm just about to start my first semester, so I'm wondering what nursing students get engraved on their stethoscopes. I know that I'll use it for years to come. Do you just get your name on it, or do you put (RN) after it? I (in no way shape or form!) consider myself to be an RN, but I will be in 2 years. That's the ultimate goal, right? And I'll (hopefully) still have my stethoscope after those 2 years are done. I just wouldn't want to **** anybody off who has already worked so hard for the title. Just curious what other people do.
  7. You should apply to the SCC/UCF concurrent program for the Spring. I'm starting it in August. First, I would be shocked to see you make it to UCF in an hour. You have to factor in finding parking and walking a good distance to classes. I live in College Park (near Downtown), and it took me 45+ minutes to get over to an information session. I couldn't believe it! Do a test drive. Could be worth it. SCC's Altamonte campus might take you 45 minutes or so. The campus is tiny, so it's just the drive time for you. It takes 7 semesters to get your BSN. Get those classes done, so that you can have some options UCF is reallly hard to get into, even with your GPA. They allow all their FTIC students in first, then the Directconnect (AA completed in 6 semesters) students, and then the let in some transfer students (if there's any room left). Good luck in whatever you decide!
  8. Thanks for the response I guess I'll see how I feel at orientation. I am getting excited and don't want to have to wait until Spring semester to start. I've been working toward this for a very long time. Either way, I'm going to finally get to go to nursing school. YAY!
  9. I am also accepted into the SCC/UCF concurrent program for August I applied to UCF, but I got wait-listed with my 3.76 GPA (at the time of application--now I'm at 3.785). The guy that I spoke to at UCF said it's only because I'm a transfer student. I'm still kinda hoping that I'll get something in the mail about that, but I'm not holding my breath. I also applied to UCF Daytona for Jan. 2010. I don't know if I got in, and it would be a major hike for me (50 min.), if I did. SCC Altamonte is about 15 min. from me, and that's awesome. The only thing that I don't like is that there are 7 semesters of school, by going that route. If I get into UCF Daytona, I'd start a semester later and finish a semester earlier. I have two young children, so that is pretty major. Also, I'd be in one program out at Daytona vs. being in two programs with the SCC/UCF program. That aspect is a little intimidating for me. I dunno.....lots to think about
  10. I have a 3.76 GPA and have been wait listed at UCF for Fall I am considered to be a lowly transfer student, so that didn't help. I guess I'll have to do the SCC-UCF concurrent program. I am so bummed. I really felt like I was going to get in.
