Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

hi everyone,

my name is katie, i am currently doing my pre-req's for the rn program at mwcc in gardner(-hay), massachusetts.

it is my second semester and i am taking;

a&p 1

mat 120

eng 102

health fitness & wellness( the transfer class)

i am a cna and would like to get my rn than my bachelor's in nursing and hopefully go on from there.

i have been hearing mostly horror stories about a&p and i am a tad bit nervous.

i took bio 115 last semester because i graduated in '03 and have not been to school since then.

anyone have any advice to survive this course?

thanks!

katie b.

I thought it was a very good class. I did not think A&P was that tough. There are a ton of websites with quizzes and study material. I used those to really reinforce what I was learning. Keep up on your reading, go to class and study a little everyday and you will be fine.

Good luck.

matt

Katie, welcome. Sounds like you have a full course load! 2 easier classes with 2 harder classes, which is a good balance. I have met SEVERAL students who have had to repeat the A&P classes at my school. I think that time management is the most important tool when it comes to school, add work and family into the mix and you would be a VERY busy person. But the good news is that so many people are married with children, work full time and still get awesome grades in school. This is a good place to find support if that is the case.

If you are single and don't have children I wouldn't recommend working more than you have to. School should be your priority and don't take on more classes than you can handle otherwise your grades will suffer and those are very important. I also personally believe that the higher your grades, the more you have actually absorbed, which is very important for certain pre-reqs. Especially the health science classes (like A&P, micro, etc). Your grades play such a large part in getting into nursing school so make them a priority. Don't be scared to drop a class, I have before and I am happy I did.

Don't be freaked out about A&P, it isn't that bad, you just have to study a lot. If that is what makes a class bad, then I guess it is bad...

Hi Katie,

I'm also a MWCC wannabe-RN, and I have done all of those courses. A&P I does require a lot of studying and memorization, but I don't think you will find it difficult in terms of concepts, particularly if you have already done BIO 115. I had a wonderful professor (not sure if I can post names here), which really does help.

Look up to see my age. Now do the math to figure out how long since I was at school. If you can do that math, you can do MAT 120. LOL! It really is NOT difficult (even with a 100-year break from school), so don't stress out about that. I found that ENG 102 just involved a lot of reading and writing--no difficult concepts there either. The Health, Fitness and Wellness course I did was the 2-credit version (bad decision--can't transfer it) because I squeezed it in during an intersession. Anyway, that was another easy one, and you will LOVE the teach (I think she's the only one who teaches that class). The A&P is definitely the most challenging of your courses, but it's not that bad, and I think it's really worth working hard at it. You'll be glad you have such a great foundation when it comes to A&P II and you have to apply so much of the knowledge you learned.

Good luck!
