New school disease & New treatment regimen

Published

In case this comes up at your school anytime soon...

I had a kindergartener come this afternoon with a new complaint:

He said he had a potato chip poking him in the stomach. I asked him to show me exactly where he was feeling this poking pain and he pointed just below his bellybutton.

After describing his lunch of potato chips and sandwich, I encouraged him to drink plenty of water to wash down said potato chips that were obviously poking his bellybutton from the inside.

He declined saying, "I've had like 10 sips of water and that hasn't helped. Do you have some medicine that will take care of this?"

So, he got a Tums tablet thanks to his mom checking yes next to the Tums on his health card back in August.

Then he announces, "I'll sit right here and let it melt on my tongue. It should be melted by carline, don't you think?"

Ha! You're hysterical...scoot yourself on back to class, buddy.

I remember in high school I suddenly felt terrible. Went to the nurses office and she had me lie down. *sigh* My physics class was right across the hall and I could still hear the teacher. My stomach was not helped. :( (let's just say most of our science teachers were sorta lacking, and some were just plain weird)

I'm just gonna leave this here.

You dirty thinkers.

I have become a big fan of this approach.... particularly when I know a teacher has sent the student down for something completely ridiculous. Student gets bored and wants to leave. But the wasted time means teacher has catching up to do and (hopefully) realizes that non-emergent issues may sit. And sit.
