How are your prospects looking? Should we believe that healthcare is booming?
Hellooo fellow nurses!
We are all on the same team! I'm happy for all the new grads that has a job lined up! I'm still looking myself. But your success stories give me hope! I understand the new grads that do not have a job yet may misconstrue the celebratory posts as malicious. But please keep these success stories coming!
As for the new grads on my boat, please stay positive! We are nurses and we WILL get jobs!
I think I missed it too. Seems to be the consensus that you can only post if you are venting you don't have a job. If you have a job you are lucky (couldn't possibly be because any hard work you did) and you can't be happy about it.
When I posted about my job it was to celebrate, to give other new grads hope that there ARE jobs out there, and to share tips that worked for me. I did feel lucky to get my job, and very grateful, even though I did work hard to get it. Some folks are doing are doing all the right things and still aren't getting interviews, but I think many folks have ways they can improve their hunt. I know I learned a lot from this site as well as from supporters offline. I think most recent grads know how tough things can be and share their stories not to gloat but to inspire.
For those who haven't found a job yet, what about a seasonal job like Mollen Immunizations? I applied for them last week and I got hired on the spot this morning. I graduated this past December 2010, got my license in May 2011 and have applied over 50 applications since Dec and no job until this morning
I am still applying because this job is seasonal from Sept - early Dec.
Added plus is that I schedule this job around another job. =)
I passed my boards on July 8th. I have since then applied to about 30 positions. These have been mainly focused on my areas of great interest and the shifts of interest. Soon I will start sucking it up and applying to the hospitals/shifts/areas that are not on the top of my list. I know its only been a little over a week, but I am feeling discouraged already. I know its awful of me, but its the truth.
Don't be discouraged, stay positive. I have been looking for jobs since I graduated in Dec and retook my boards in May. It just take time. I did get a call during my studies for second round of NCLEX 3 months after I applied to a few healthcare facilities. So it takes up to 3-4 months, but be persistent. You will find something. Just apply everywhere and reconnect with your classmates who have jobs already to vouch for you. Also get reference letters from your instructors and practicuum instructor to have handy.
I was one of the discouraged ones. I applied to at least 100 jobs and most of the time I got the automatic "Thanks, but, no thanks" emails. Many of the hospitals in my area require > 1 year experience, even the traditionally thought of "bottom of the barrel" jobs (LTC, hospice, etc). However, less than a week ago I finally got a call for an interview and now I officially have a job! They are pushing me down the pipe line because new grad orientation begins this monday. And you know what? Yesterday right after I accepted my job offer, I got another call for an interview for another job!
Please, for those still struggling to find that all mighty first RN job, don't take this as bragging, but as encouragement that there is hope! Good luck to everyone who has a job and those still searching.

I agree, that is what I have tried to do. Inspire the current students or new grads. I feel fortunate to have a job. I know it's rough out there. But it also wasn't just handed to me. I went out and worked my bum off to try to ensure I would have a job. (not saying others haven't) But it certainly wasn't I graduated college and next morning I had an offer just for being me. Then I would see it as lucky. All I can say is for people to try and make those connections during clinicals. It seems that most of the people in my New Grad Residency had some sort of it. My best friend just got a job offer, she is the only non contracted student outside of myself to have a hospital job. I talked to my manager about her and she was willing to give her a chance. It was up to my friend to nail the interviews but just getting that initial chance was huge and that was all about who you know. From most of the people I talked to it was same for them. Someone got them noticed by a connection they had.
Hopefully things start improving in the economy and more jobs start opening up. Until then though I think it's important that those having success share the stories to help give hope to others.

I guess it means that they are barely reviewing applications. If I get a call from them I will decline (I just accepted an offer).
Good luck to those who applied.
I was thinking the same thing....I do not like posting my réeumé online unless it is approved by my school to see if it is legit.
I put my resume on monster and careerbuilder. Some people have had success from doing that, but all I've received are calls and emails from insurance companies.
Curiously, I got an interview by fishing blind with the local health dept. I have an interview this morning and I am excited again because this job would put a mile from home. I don't suppose anyone knows how much PHN new grad salary includes eh? Still have not heard back after second job interview. They said I would hear back today or Monday. This waiting is crazy! Maybe today is the day I hope.
Glad and very excited to report that this cold fishing was well worth it! I was hired the very next day two hours after my interview. The duties from the job description are positively enticing for me personally. I can now say I am employed and a Public Health Nurse! Whoo-hoo!!!!! Exactly 42 resumes sent out, and been 43 days post-NCLEX. It was the longest time I ever knew.
