New nurse in the USA

Published

Hi. this is my first post on this site. I need some advice. My wife has done her GNM which is a Diploma in India. She will be coming to the USA on the basis of marriage so she will have her green card when she enters the States. I stumbled upon this site when searching for information about her eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN exam with only a Diploma from another country. I was going to get her transcripts evaluated via WES, but it says that CGFNS is what is used to evaluate credentials of international nurses. My question is can i make an account on my name on the CGFNS site or do i need to make it on my wife's name? Also i looked at the CGFNS site and it says for my state i need a CES, but it doesn't say if I need a CES Academic or CES Professional Report. Also is there anyone who is/was in the same shoes...can a GNM from India be allowed to take the NCLEX-RN exam in the USA? sorry for the long post.

Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure that she needs a bachelor degree, for an RN and a first level nurse , however she may be seen equivalent to a lpn nurse and then sit the Nclex PN exam, best thing to do is phone cgfns, good luck

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Your wife should be OK as the US trains both diploma and degree. The CGFNS account must be in her name and would suggest academic CES

Yes, a nurse with GNM from India can become RN in US. Regarding the CES, i think it's CES professional but I am not very sure.
