New Nurse Proverbs.

Published

As I start my first nursing job in a level one Tri state trauma center, I find myself valuing the wisdom and guidance of elder nurses.

Please impart words of wisdom and guidance here. Bless myself and other intimidated new nurses with a nursing proverb.

I'll start with one that was given to me by a senior staff member: "be glad you're starting trauma in the winter so you can learn as much as possible before people get trigger happy in the summer."

When in doubt, ASK!
"No such thing as a dumb question".

Who looks "dumber", he who asks and gets it right?

Or he who doesn't and gets it wrong?

When starting a new job, listen more than you talk. You will learn a lot more this way.

Tools to always have in your pockets, alcohol preps, tape, scissors, will help to keep you on task without trying to find them!! And I always go by Murphy's Law---if anything can go wrong, it usually does!!
