New nurse with prior arrest, waiting on licensure from NJ BON

Published

Hi everyone,

i recently graduated nursing school and passed my nclex . Ten years ago I was arrested for a DUI. I submitted all of the required paperwork, my explanation letter and supporting documents. I am still waiting on my license. When I call the BON they can not give me a time frame besides " a very long time." They keepntelling me to call back in 7-10 business days and give me the same information. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this? I am so nervous that I will not be able to practice as a RN because of a immature mistake. I have a job lined up but can not start since I don't have the license. Does anyone know how/ If I can speed up the process? Would a nursing attorney be able to help me with this? Any information, contacts and tips on how to speed up to process would be greatly appreciated!

thank you

Sadly, the BON marches to the beat of its own drum while you are left dangling in the wind. A nursing attorney won't hurt and could represent you in front of the Board, if it comes down to that. If you haven't already get your court documents together, along with documentation to support your claim that you are now a stellar member of the community. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm currently dealing with a similar situation. Have you resolved this issue? Are you licensed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
