New Nurse and I dont think dialysis is for me HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Published

Hi all

I need some advice I'am a recent graduate from this pass May I have my associates and I'am currently enrolled in a acclerated BSN program I had a problem not finding a job because I didnot have my BSN I always had a interest in Renal and I have been employed at my job for two months and I donot think that Renal (espically in a chronic unit) is for me. I really want to work in the hospital on like a Medsurg or a Tele unit, but becuase i dont have my BSN I'am not qualified. I also fear that I'am forgetting alot of my skills from nursing school becuase I'am a dialysis nurse I really dont do that much but push the same meds over and over again There is really not alot of critical thinking, assesment skills that I have to use. My problem is I make great money as a new grad 28.00/hr and I was thinking that once i get my BSN in a little over a year i would try to get a job at a hospital but I'am not sure if i can use dialysis as experience as a nurse because the hospitals here in philadelphia maybe start their new grads off anywhere between 25-28/hr and i cannot afford to take a pay cut. Please Help also do you guys know of any courses that I can take as a refresher if I'am trying to get into Telementry. I was so good at that in nursing school but like the old saying goes if you dont use it you loose it

Thank you all for your post and for the user roser13 this is not a job application and I DONOT have to explain myself to you at all. I have worked very hard to come to where righ now and I'am and I donot need a person like you telling me that I donot speak intelligent enough on a website. THIS IS NOT A JOB INTERVIEW and for your information, I have been offered several positions as a new grad and my education dosent stop at my Bachelor level either. Plain and simple if you donot like what i say or how i say it, then I donot need you reading my post and responding to it and by the way Your opinion doesnot matter. Also I'am very grateful for my job, but i just dont think dialysis is for me right now. That is one of the reasons why i went back to school to have a career and not a job, but thanks anyway

Dialysis isn't right for everyone. If none of the points raised by more experienced members have given you cause to reflect and reconsider then you probably should look at a different area.

I have to say that I'm disappointed that the main thing you got from the responses to this thread was offended at a member critisising the way you typed.

Dear Cindy,

What you post here is representative of how your brain functions. Be humble. Your current post is nearly as difficult to read as your first one. If you want support and assistance then your posts need to be easy to read.

If you are posting from a mobile device, then there is some leeway. If from a larger devices, then just slow down a bit and reread your posts before posting.

Dialysis is not for everybody, but working on mainly a renal floor in a hospital is similar to general med-surg.

Best wishes.

did you think all the extra "!" would help us answer this?

Cindy,

I have to agree with merlee. Dialysis is not for everyone; However, working on a renal floor in a hospital is just as challanging. You must understand the renal floor is also med/surg...you will learn a lot. I charge on a renal floor with our hospitals inpatient dialysis unit as a part of our floor. At any given time over half of our 24 beds belong to renal patients, the rest are med/surg...We take it all!!! But I must say, as a fairly new nurse ( graduated in 09 ) what I've learned, and still learning, on this floor has made me unsinkable.

In short, if dialysis is not your thing, it's okay. Find out what is. Just know that a renal unit in a hospital will be similar (as your renal patients are concerned) and you will have the opportunity to gain other experiences too. Find your niche! Good Luck!!!!

I personally would wait a year, stick it out and then reevaluate. I think in two months you have mastered the tasks, but.... you don't even realize how much you dont know.

Ivanna, I appreciate your post but based on the OP's response to the thread I don' think she's interested.

Only those that said what you wanted to hear ... ?

Got it! ;)

cindy17, someday you'll know better.

and fwiw, persistent demonstrated lack of ability to write a coherent sentence bespeaks less, rather than more, education. i'd stop while ahead if i were you. claims to the contrary are simply not credible. but hey, that's the beauty of the internet; you can be anything you want.

good luck to you.
