Just got word that I have been selected for the Navy Nurse Candidate Program! Super excited! I would love to get in contact with others. I graduate in May of 2012. Anyone else out there?
Just found out yesterday that I'm in!!!!!!!!!!! My recruiter has my acceptance letter and I will swear in in a couple of days.I am beyond excited. I had almost come to the conclusion that it wasn't going to happen, and then out of the blue I get an email. I'm still smiling!
CONGRATS!!!!
What was your gpa when you applied to ncp? Thanks.
My overall cumulative GPA was 3.46 entering into the NCP...You just have to maintain a minimum 3.0 while in nursing school. I also only did the 1 year NCP for 4 year service and not the full 2 years of NCP..So I was already in nursing school for a year when I applied for the NCP. Feel free to ask more questions..
VentSc how long after you cleared meps and have been pro'recd did you receive word that you have been "final" selected? And did it take long to get that final selection letter? Were you an anlternate too? Thanks!
Well..I did MEPS at Shreveport around Oct 2009 and an interview with a LT commander in person Nov 2009...I kinda backed out for a sec cause I was not sure I wanted do the military and plus I was focusing on Nursing school. I called my medical recruiter again around summer of 2010 to finish my paperwork because this time I was 100% sure I wanted to do navy nursing. ..I got my second phone interview with a Navy Nurse Commander around July 2010 and she really like my interview and gave great remarks on my performance. My medical recruiter told me to wait about 4 months for my application to be processed. Around October 2010, My recruiter called to tell me I got in into the NCP for 2011. I signed my military contract and got sworn in by a navy officer around Novemember 2010 and started getting stipend on December. The NCP has been great and consistent so far throughout nursing school. My advice to you, Be 100% sure this is what you want!! and Get your application done as soon as possible!!. Its just paperwork!!...It is a first come first serve basis!! and they only accept limited amount each year!!And Do not forget to train yourself for ODS --> push ups, 1.5 mile, 50 yrd swim (any stroke), prone float 5min, sit ups, weight and height standards and minimum 3.0 GPA each semester and cumulative GPA.. Just keep yourself healthy. I have 1 semester left of nursing school so I am expecting to be called for ODS around March 2012 after I pass my NCLEX.. We are only given 2 tries to take and pass it... and 30 days after graduation to study for it.. Prayers and dedication always help me out. Good luck...
