Hey all!

I just need your imput. I just graduated from nursing school and passed the NCLEX exam and now I started a new job in the MICU. I feel so overwhelmed and I would always doubt myself about my ability. I would always think if I could cut it as a nurse. I love nursing...is this normal?

Yes it is called reality shock. You think you know alot when you get out of school. In reality it is just the tip of the iceberg......

I'm graduating this fall and starting in the MICU. I'm a little nervous but also very excited!! I know the first few months will be tough. Good luck in your new job MICU nurse!

I just graduated and I love it, but it can be a bit of a shock! I'm sure that you will be fine once you start getting used to the flow of the unit and feel more comfortable. You can do this!!!

Good luck!!!!!

The AACN has a lot of information. They sell laminated cards for your pocket.

The other link was found on this BB. Mark has created a terrific resource. I use it for precepting new nurses all the time.

Enjoy!

Hello- Just registered and became a new member. This is my very first post, you guys! I have graduated with BSN last month and am planning to work for MICU, starting next week!

Thank you, spacenurse, for your post. I have ordered their new (free) sepsis CD-ROM. I really like it. Yes, I have soooo much to learn as a new grad and am very excited.

Hi MICU nurse,

Where do you work? You'll get by it, but u need to like what u are doing first? Do you like ICU nursing? the pace, the excitement, the high stress that comes with it everytime u walk into the ICU before work? Because i like it...and i just finished my advanced diploma in critical care too..

Cheers,

Angela

hi, nothing to worry about. one day you have to intubate the patient and start the mechanical ventilation alone. if cardiac arrest happen you have to find a way to save his life as fast as u can.

I started out as a new grad in the critical care unit and kept asking myself "Did I learn this in nursing school?!???" It took a while, at least 2 years before I truly felt comfortable with what I was doing. I've been doing it 11+ years now and still love it as much (almost) as my first day.

give yourself a break and enjoy your new learning process! your learning curve just shot straight up. Good luck!
