New LPN program in Indiana

Med Tech college is offering the practical nursing program and its very expensive.. Its about$18,500 for the program and its 15 months long.. You have to take the PSB and score high enough to get into the program.. They said right now they are not offering financial aid for the program.. So my question is how would you pay that much for the program without financial aid??

OUCH!! $18,500 for an LPN? And I thought the $4,000 I paid out of pocket was bad!

I would think if you score well on the PSB, you would do just as well on the TEAS to get into Ivy Tech. ( and your wallet wouldnt suffer as much)

At first I really wanted to go there but, when I found out how much it was it made me really think.. I did take my psb there and I didn't do very well on it so when I called the school to ask for my $50 application fee back the director of the school became very snotty about it and started degrating me on the telephone.. So, I honestly think I will just go back to ivy tech and try to fight the waiting lists..

MedTech is a proprietary school, exactly like Brown Mackie College & Olympia College. Very expensive and quick AND non eof your credits will transfer to any other college or university should U want 2 continue your education in nursing. BAD DEAL!!!!!! Trust me, look @ the stories posted on this site.

I was actually at the IBON when MedTech asked for accreditation....THey are nuts, and seem way understaffed for the ontaking of a LPN program. They had a small library of about 6 computers...wait...for ALL their students!!!!!! .Compared to Ivy Tech, they are looking pretty crappy.

I know its a pain in the butt to go through Ivy Tech, but I just finished the LPN program there and it was very thorough. The only reason I am not going back for my ASN there is because they told the transitioning classes (LPN to ASN) in our "information session" that most of us would be travelling to Shelbyville everyday... No thanks. Plus I just need some time off to de-stress.

I'm not goint to knock anyone for paying too much for school. The way I see it...they make it almost impossible to get into these nursing programs; so when you finally do get into one you are willing to pay.

I attend Olympia College in Merrillville Indiana. The tuition (including books, uniforms, etc.) is around the same price but they accept financial aid. Most colleges like Olympia and Ivy Tech are private colleges (not community colleges) so you are going to pay a heck of a lot more. It's just a matter of where people are in their lives. Some people have time to wait to be accepted into the over crowded community colleges that have waiting lists a mile long. I am not getting any younger and decided that I would rather pay the higher price, use my financial aid and student loans, and get my LPN, than wait to be accepted into the program in 2008.

Think about it, doctors, lawyers, etc. all had to pay some out of pocket cost in order to achieve their educational goals. It's not goint to come easy.

No matter what happens keep your head up and move forward. Don't let any of these schools discourage you from your dream. You are going to run into some real jerks. Sorry for such a lengthy message.

i agree that the lpn program at medtech is way to expensive to be a one year program, but i have been the ivy tech route and it is a big pain. i would rather pay the extra thousands than be at ivy tech for five years just to be a lpn. i currently go to med tech for medical assisting ( which is a pretty good program) but if i score high enough on my psb i am going to go into their lpn program. i am just going to have to have a big student loan to pay back sadly, but i just dont have the time to give ivy tech. about the classes not transferring their may be some truth in that, ive heard a couple students say that.

Oh yeah starting in January Medtech will be taking aid for the LPN program. They are waiting for the last of the paperwork to be processed to approve state funded aid for the program. I went through all of this will my admissons rep last week. (Not that I am promoting anyone to pay $19,000 just FYI)

I took the PSB at medtech college and didn't do very well on it.. When I called to ask for my application fee back the director of the school became very snotty.. I'm not upset that I didn't make it into the program but, I'm just kind of lost now as to what I want to do.. I just can't believe that I got that kind of reaction for asking for my application fee back when I was told I could have it back if I didn't make it into the program. I figured since I asked for my application fee back I probably won't be welcomed back there to retake the psb.. I guess the whole point of this is to be very careful when dealing with them..

I think you may have accidentally worded this incorrectly, but Ivy Tech is a community college and many $$$$$ cheaper. For some, this is what it boils down to. I think if you want to be a nurse bad enough, you will do whatever it takes, regardless of whether you pay the extra, or you wait the extra time.
