New LPN in New JErsey

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I just passed my Nclex last week. It takes 2-3 weeks to get my license. I don't have that much time. I need to find a job ASAP. Any LPN in New Jersey knows any employers that will hire a recently Board passer if he/she can provide a proof of passing the Nclex?

i am new lpn in jersey also,i do have my liscence though. i know that most places wont hire lpn's without a liscence number.

wow. really? how long did it take for your license to come??

you dont want to know! i had already had my fingerprints done when i was back in school, around early april. i took my boards first week of june and expected my liscence before june ran out. i did not know that the criminal history review unit had some how lost my prints. it was a long ordeal . To cut the long story short , i had to get refingerprinted at my own expense. less than two weeks after my finger print , in july, i got a letter with a liscense number. my liscence was to follow two weeks after. just make sure the board of nursing has everything on file: completion of your background check, copy of social security card etc. it takes about 3 weeks to a month. if your situation is uncomplicated. i still havent found a good job yet. i've had offers of every other weekend, perdiem or plain just, "we dont want to hire a new nurse. come back when you have experience." like experience is going to fall from the sky. good luck!

woww...you waited that long.. i hope mine comes real quick..i'm about to apply to some just to see who will hire me without license number yet..can't sit around anymore... i hope you find a job soon too..keep in touch! good luck :)

i am a new lpn from nj as well. you do not need your actual paper license to apply for jobs.

nj board of nursing processed my paper works rather quickly. it took them one week after they received my official transcript from my school to give me a go signal. i guess i was lucky. then i took the nclex 2 weeks later.

this is what i did. 48 hours post nclex, i found out i passed via quick results. then i called the board of nursing right away and i was able to obtain my license number, issue date, and expiration date. they said i would receive my actual license within 10 business days. i did not wait for the paper license. i updated my resume and put my license number there and applied for jobs the next day. never did once the employers asked for my paper license.

fast forward to 4 months later, i am still at my first job enjoying and loving it. i am still learning a lot and i cannot stop smiling everytime i see my paycheck because i found myself not worrying about whether i would be able to pay my bills. now i don't have to live pay check to pay check. i love being a nurse.

i hope i gave you some motivation because i know there are a lot of uncertainties now. good luck and congratulations nurse!!

just the general number from the board's website. this was back in march of this year. why don't you try calling even if your sister did already? it might be different for you.

actually, when i called them i only wanted to ask how long i would receive my paper license but the nice lady on the phone said she could give me my license number and i would be able to apply for jobs already.

ahh ok.i will try today..thank you so much.!

i am in NJ, i got a job before i even took my nclex...but if you passed the nclex some will hire you for orientation until you get your actual license.

let me clarify...during orientation (mine is 3 weeks since i am a recent grad) you are not allowed to give meds, etc, but you learn the paperwork, and daily routines, etc. but hey its a paid orientation while your waiting on your paper license. i just found out i passed today i sure hope it doesnt take 3 weeks to get my license. i thought they said 10 to 15 days.

Hai Guys,

I am a nurse registered in Sri Lanka, my license was not accepted inNY, is it possible for me to challenge the NJ LPN program without doing the course
