New job offer, feeling guilty for giving notice

My family and I have been wanting to move, for many reasons.  The biggest reason being more opportunities for my special needs child.  I just received a job offer with very good pay.  I need to accept the job offer and then give notice to my current position.  I’m feeling so guilty because they are short staffed and have been good to me.  I have every intention of giving the full notice.  But I’m just dreading giving my notice!  I’ve never been good at this kind of thing!  Please, I’d love any advice and tips on how to word things!

I am giving notice of intent to resign my position, effective (date).

I have accepted a position in a location where my child will have access to needed services.

It has been a privilege to work for this organization and not an easy decision to leave.

Sincerely,

I having nothing but good to say of my experience here and the wonderful people I work with.  It will not be easy to say goodbye.

Thank you so much!

You will probably have to resign several more times in your career. You do not owe the employer anything , other than the proper notice.

It doesn't even matter the reason you are leaving. Get over the guilt trip.  That kind of thinking also affects your nursing capabilities.

Move on and best wishes.

You are not alone in feeling this way. (Finding an employer in health care who has treated you well is unique too). I always recite the mantra "family comes first" when making any job type decisions. You're doing the right thing!
