just wondering what nurses make in NJ?

Specializes in Wound Care, LTC, Sub-Acute, Vents.

i make $28/hr weekdays and $30/hr weekends as a new rn (adn). bsn usually get you $0.25 to $1 per hour extra. my facility does not pay extra for bsn that is why i am not rushing to get it.

$25 - $35/hr depending on the facility and location.

What about Per Diem? Don't they usually make more hourly

DO Not Take Any Per Deim position: the" foot in the door philosophy",that's a crock if I ever heard one. I took a per deim position in a heart specialty hospital- I had been out of work for 5 months in the beginning of 2008, applied to an number of positions/full time, seen advertised. The only position that called for the interview was this per deim- requirement was experience( which I definitely had) I held this "old" philosophy of "foot in the door", It was said to me when I was hired” at least you will have your foot in the door" and "keep watching for an open position". It was the worst floor in the hospital(no one wanted to be pulled there) I stuck it out( no benefits, no thank you for coming in during snow storms, holiday's) It got to be I was expected to put my entire life on hold waiting for this place to call or cancel( cant pay mortgage if your cancelled- no vacation time/per deim) I got a temp position( still thinking 'foot in the door, watch for an open position, things will get better, no more hop scotching around with other small jobs to make due) NEVER HAPPENED. When this place found out I had a second job- I was dog meat. I was terminated 2 months after the creep NURSE manager found out I had this second(temp) job. In her eyes, I was not at her beck and call.( call me in @ 0830 AM, 1030 AM, and 1130AM to work to 3p or 730 p, cancel me for 2 months straight on my regular signed up for commitment times, call me in for 4 hrs/month and cancel me for the rest of the month) She had a full time position and gave it to someone from the outside and terminated me. I was told when she terminated- they expected me to come in when they called me for short staffing and not have to call agency" I was punished for having a regular paying(30/hr week) short term job. So moral of story/lesson learned/ BEWARE: if you take a per deim position that is all you will ever be @ that place, PER DEIM!! They expect you to get up at 0530AM put on your uniform, waiting by the phone picking your nose, just INCASE. their moron a***s are short staffed.!! The reason I was called in at such odd times, this floor was what that hospital considered "med/surg". This floor's patient population had every patient on tele and 3 day post open hearts, post thoracic, post vascular, post MICU breathers, post cath's. The freaking floor that the CVSICU used to clean it's CVICU out onto to get fresh post open hearts into the SICU. This wagon train of tubes and pumps usually happened before lunch. Some time I got patients back to back some times I got patients at 0715 in the AM. The policy was to clean out the CVSICU on surgical resident rounds which happened @530 A. So I was the nurse that received EVERY transfer from the CVSICU- mediastinal chest tubes, foleys, pacer wires, I -meds/heparin drips, PTT's to call, H&H's to call, blood to give -I was the transer receiving nurse, holy crap!! There were no real med/surg patients in this hospital. And then you never do anything right and to give a full time position to an outsider-

i feel for you. i hope you find a new position (f/t) soon. however, not all per-diem positions are terrible. i work per-diem in another snf facility and the don asked me a couple times already if i wanted to go full-time. i have a full-time job already so i told her no.

good luck. the job market for rn in nj is terrible!

I'm a new grad and I'm making 33hr. But thats because I work nights. I think day time the base pay is 26.50 and than you get a 1.50 for having your BSN.

I'm an older RN in NJ with 30yrs experience as an RN- I make $26.75/hr in NJ- see what you have to look forward to! Then you have some ward clerk , unit secretary, receptionist, nurses aide, LPN telling YOU what to do and if you don't do what THEY want you to, you get reported to the nursing manager.

How can you be working in the field making $26.75 and that's what some starting out nurses make?

Specializes in FNP.

I am per diem (by choice) and make 39 weekdays and 44 weekends and 10% and 15% differential for evenings and nights.

I took a temporary federal position- after to numerous to count applications and 1 interview, with bills to pay, I decided I better take it.And after filling out several more applications looking for the pay I should be making even though I still have the temp position, I have not received any interviews. They do donot want to hire nurses with 30 years experience!! Because they have to pay us. I'd love to know where these $39 and $44/hr per deim positions are. I took a per deim position $36/hr no bene's, no diff., in 2008 and got totally screwed 2 yrs later. I was cancelled left and right, sometimes 2 months straight. I had to take a temp full time position( monday- friday, 8-4:30, non clinical, no cancel). Per deim job found out about it. kept calling me when they knew I couldn't come in( yes, they had my schedule from the temp job) and terminated me, by some rotund, color treated highlighted tiped bimbo who was an LPN for 25 yrs and decided she was going back for her RN- ON LINE." Who didn't know you don't give citrus juice to a dialysis patient. BIMBO!!! I was not avail to them"

Nursing does not want older nurses- LOOK at the threads on this website- asking for photos with resume's(since when), cheesy terminations, pushing nurses out of their jobs, early retirement packages.

Nursing is it's own driving force in a nursing shortage- has nothing to do with the economy. Nursing is engineering this and BLAMING the economy to keep the profession from getting the reputation it truely deserves.RUTHLESS. Since when doe one have to be a goo-goo doll to be a nurse. Physical appearance was never a requirement. Now it's right up there with the RN license. Read some of the career advice colums for nursing on how to 'land' a job especially columns aimed at the "mature"nurse in this job market. (add highlight to your hair to brighten your face and make you appear younger, enroll in an excersize clas or a yoga class) Is this nursing we are talking about (wiping butt) or the victoria secret cat walk!! NJ is one of THE WORST- a crappy state, on the verge of bankruptcy because every one who live in this state is rude, sproiled and over indulged, with very catty nurses( as compare to Pa). The best thing to happen for NJ would be a tsunami. It's a crap hole full of idots who forget how to drive when they see 1 flake of snow. Idots who have let CEO's get paid multi milloins while they lay off nurses and the nurses who are still working don't know any better.

Specializes in med-surg.

I work in a hospital med-surg. I started out (on nights) 2 years ago with 32.60, I think I make 33.10 now. Small raise, huh? Days I believe makes 30 and change as a new RN.
