New Jersey City University (NJCU) Accelerated Nursing 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all!

I know it may be a bit early but I like to always get the ball rolling. Is there anyone that is looking to apply to the 2019-2020 accelerated nursing cohort at NJCU?? I'm looking to connect so we can keep each other updated throughout the process.

Hi! I've been thinking of a career change for about 2 years now and I'm more certain than ever that nursing is the right path for me! I've been looking for NJCU Accelerated program and I just want to ask if they accept online schools such as University of Phoenix for pre-req classes - I'm in the finance/accounting field and it's not the most time-flexible :( I have not yet started any pre-req because of this. I just hope NJCU accepts online courses because that would make this whole process doable for me!

I truly appreciate ANY & EVERY advice/thoughts on this!

Hi Maria!

They do accept online programs but you have to call and make sure the online program you're considering is accepted. I took an online Microbiology w/ Lab course through EduKan. It was a great experience and it is accepted by NJCU. Its an online program that uses a consortium of Kansas City community colleges to be the school that you "attend" and pay but everything is taught through EduKan themselves. Payment plans are available. The transcript will be directly from the Community College you choose (I believe there are 5).

Hi Maria,

I took all of the pre-reqs online! They are one of the few schools that actually accept science courses taken online. It was the best option for me as I am still working full time.

Has anyone taken the HESI yet? I know online it says you get a basic calculator but just want to make sure!

hi everyone!

i am applying for the may 2019 wall cohort as well!! it is my absolute number one choice and really look forward to (hopefully) meeting you guys. i just took the hesi today (93% yay) and submitted my application and i am so nervous!

does anyone happen to know when decisions start coming out? i was told this program sends out their decisions v late and was wondering if that was true or just a silly rumor.

thanks!

Hello everyone,

I applied to NJCU (Wall campus), I submitted my application 2 weeks ago, got 90% on my HESI. Waiting mood activated. Hopefully, something good will come out of it.

I just took the hesi today. There is a calculator on screen and I scored a 97.3. I'll be submitting my app soon. Relieved to be in this stage of the process.

Hi everyone,

I graduated from the accelerated NJCU 2017-2018 Jersey City cohort. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! I remember looking through these forums when I was first applying and I understand that it is a stressful process. Good luck! ?

Hi lws,

Do you remember how long after the deadline the school notified you of getting in and also how did they let you know (email, letter in mail, etc)? Thank you!

Hi Kristen,

what online program did you use? Yeah the fact that there are only few schools that accept online courses worries me because I’m limiting my options but with my work situation, I’m afraid online course is the most feasible solution ☹️

On a different note, good luck to all of you applying for this upcoming cohort!!!!!

I know website says NJCU does not test on physics or Chemistry but I wanted to verify this. I graduated Rutgers in 2009 but don't have a stellar G.P.A. I got a 4.0 on my prerequisites and stellar Letters of Recommendation. I'm aiming for 90-100 score range for Hesi. I went through the Elsevier 4th Edition several times and answered 90% or better on all sample questions and posttest after reviewing but will continue to do study and incorporate online tests, use cell phone apps, read another HESI study book I have and hopefully be prepared for it by Feb 18th when I take exam.

Hi Maria,

I took all the pre-reqs in two separate semesters, stat and anatomy I in the summer and then anatomy II, micro, and psychology this past fall and finished in December! I took them at empire state college and had a full time job at the same time. Definitely a little time consuming with the labs and writing but honestly not bad at all if you just follow the directions. Everything online was pretty straight forward and the teachers were very lenient and helpful honestly. Yeah I chose to apply to NJCU because they accept online pre req science courses and I wouldn't have to re-take chem :) I would recommend taking online so you can still work!!! I would just keep searching around for other school options that will accept online pre-reqs.

I spoke to Financial Aid last week and she gave me a better understanding of how much they will cover (For Jersey City cohort). She said the program is about 11k a semester and that financial aid normally covers about $5,000 for Fall and $5,000 for Spring....This leaves a hefty bill & now I'm trying to figure out how I will be able to pay for the rest.
