New Graduate Nurse willing to Move Anywhere!

Hello there,

I just decided to join AllNurses today because I'm feeling a bit lost. I'm graduating May 6th, and having a very difficult time finding a job in a hospital (as is everyone else). I've sent out tons of applications, and haven't gotten back a single phone call. I would like to specialize in the ER, but am willing to begin anywhere. I live in CT and want to relocate. I'm willing to move pretty much anywhere, but I'm not sure where the biggest nursing shortage is. Has anyone heard of any places that still have shortages?

I would appreciate any advice. :icon_roll

Hey Jaime!

If you are willing to move anywhere I suggest you go to www.indeed.com and type in "New RN Grads" and click on "Find Jobs". The site will give u a list of all hospitals nationwide that welcome New grads or lists New Grad RN Residency Programs; and try to apply as many as u can. Make sure you write down the name of the hospital you apply with the date; this is just to keep u organized. I found 2 jobs that hire me and I picked the one closest to my state (3 hrs aways to be exact). Best of luck hon!:up:

I am also graduating in May. I was offered a position at the Mayo Clinic and then had my position taken back at the last minute. Now I'm heartbroken and looking for a job. I have been working as a nurse for the last six months in a hospital on a medical/surgical floor. I did a full-time internship @ the Mayo Clinic during last summer. I am very intelligent and experienced!!!! I am a fast learner and interested in moving anywhere. I have been involved in research projects in the clinical setting. I have also been having trouble finding a job. Anyone interested in hiring me??? I am up for anything, let me know!

I suggest the Houston Medical Center.. several of the hospitals still have new grad internship programs

Try Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC. It is my understanding (from what I hear from colleagues in my state through the grapevine) that they still hire new grads.

I used to live in CT and didnt have a problem finding a job in m/s at yale, was offered 3 positions on the same day. The specialties are more competitive. That was 2 years ago though, not sure what the situation is like now. Broward in S. FL seems to be hiring a lot of new grads right now. Good luck in finding something!

CA, LA is in demand of nurses...positions are being filled by travel nurse from different states.

Look in the south (GA, SC, etc). A lot of the smaller towns are in dire need of RNs. Look on a map and then google the cities and see what you find. I live in a very small town and we hire any RN with a pulse but I would not recommend you coming to work at my hospital. It's just an example that there are still plenty of places hiring, you just gotta look a little harder.

Houston is a great place to start and a lot of the hospitals do offer internship programs which are great. I would recommend that you get some experience under your belt before you go to the ED. I recommend at least a year of med surg followed by a couple of years in the ICU. Once you have done this, if you are in Houston, head over to Ben Taub Hospital and work in the ED there. It is VERY BUSY and is the county hospital for Harris County. It is the 5th largest trauma center in the US. I worked there for many years and I can tell you that without my med surg and ICU experience I would have never made it. Good luck to you. If you need any more info re Houston, let me know. Diane

Hello,

During my last job search the SouthWest (followed by the South/South East) seemed to be the most promising with plenty of jobs - anywhere from working in urban hospitals to working in ski-resorts :)*

My only other piece of advice would be: "Courage!"

It took me a good six months to land my first job as a new grad and it took me a good 4 months of looking to land my second (despite having experience).

Also I don't know where you are but Hartford Hospital has posting for new graduates as well as maybe Greenwich Hospital I think. Def Hartford though.

If you don't mind what school did you go to? I am in CT and starting nursing school in the fall. Are your classmates having the same problem?
