New Grads who have applied to hospitals in the Inland Empire, California....

U.S.A. California

I am moving to Redlands, CA. I am interested in working at Loma Linda Medical Center or St. Bernandine's and other hospital in that vicinity. I am curious if there are new grads who have applied to those hospitals and what their experience have been. How are those hospitals receptive to new grads?

I live in Redlands and Loma Linda is a great hospital. St. Bernadines is a good hospital in not so great area. You also have Redlands Community hospital and Arrowhead community or some of the local Kaiser facilities. My choice, Loma Linda or Redlands community. Two great facilities with great reputations in the community for work and service.

I heard that those two hospitals are really nice, I was just wondering if they are new grad friendly. I just applied to LLU Pediatric Residency so I have my fingers crossed.

I kinda hear that both Redlands and Loma Linda are really new grad friendly. I have family and friends who work at both and say good things. I hope when I finish up my ABSN program next August I can find a position at either hospital. Let me know if you have any other questions or PM me.

I do not have the privileges to PM yet :-(. I have applied to St. Bernandine's Clinical I positions, and I get "not selected" within hours. I think I will start focusing on LLMC and Redlands hospital.

Hey Ev106, How dis the job search go? I'm thinking of re-locating to Redlands next year and I'll be a new grad as well, so I'm curious as to what the market looks like....

When I was a new grad in 2009 it was rough, I applied at every hospital in both riverside county and san bernardino county. I was lucky, St. Bernardine's hired me as a new grad to ICU....their ICU is huge...47 bed, great learning experience, especially if you like hearts. However, for the most part, the nurses there are difficult to work with, not a lot of teamwork and you really have to work at it. Shortly after my hiring, they stopped hiring new grads...I'm not sure if this is still going on? Loma Linda is VERY difficult to get a job at, there's usually a several hundred applicants for a few positions. I hear the environment there is great though. Redlands is supposed to be good as well. However with the economy, I still don't think the job market is that great. At St. Bernardine's (or any Dignity health hospital) if it says Clinical Nurse I, you can apply. :) Good luck!

@LPNtoRN2013: I ended up finding a job 5 weeks after graduation, so I was lucky, I have to drive an hour to High Desert. The floor I work on is incredibly busy, but most of the nurses are really awesome and really easy to get along with. The downside is that the drive is 1 hour each way for me...

@NickiLaughs: thanks for the info, I considered to work closer to home eventually, especially at St. Bernandines...

Thats still great though :-) Because I chanced upon a thread titled "New Grad's who are unemployed" (something to that effect), and there were alot of people with BSN's in the inland empire who had graduated a year or so before who could not find jobs. So you give me hope... THANK YOU

Friendly tip if you don't mind traveling down the 60 west or 10 west a bit further past Arrowhead County Hospital in Colton. San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland will be opening up a new surgical ICU unit/building section much later this year, maybe around fall depending on whatever budgeting they have to deal with. Not sure how many beds it'll open up, but it will at least double the ICU and CCU. I'm pretty sure they would be throwing up job listings for the DOUs as well. You or any other new grad might not get the ICU/CCU staff opening since they prefer experience, but there will definitely be DOU openings that would probably be more friendly to new grads as I'm pretty sure some of the current DOU RNs will move to CCU/ICU opening up jobs for DOUs.
