New grad willing to work anywhere

Published

Specializes in School Nurse.

Where can I get a job? I'm willing to go to Africa if I need to I just want to start working! I need to get some work experience!

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Hiring for nurses (new and experienced) is robust in Minot, North Dakota. The hiring craze is a result of the oil boom that is currently going on in that region.

Also, Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center is located in Eagle Pass, Texas. They will hire new nurses who do not have any experience. However, I have heard that Eagle Pass is an ugly-looking town.

Specializes in LTC.

I agree with commuter, North dakota is hiring. Its really cold and not alot of housing but you should definitely consider it.

Specializes in Med/Surg, DSU, Ortho, Onc, Psych.

Try networking on a site like Linked in - www.linkedin.com. You can list all your experience etc paid or otherwise, & list your educational background. You can actually talk to the person advertising the job, which is a bonus.

You will need to move as well. Many people don't want to but it would only be for a year or 18 months. I know people who have moved for jobs & loved the experience. Some stayed where they were and never went back 'home'.

I get a bit tired of reading about new grads on here (not you) who only want jobs 10 or 30 minutes from home. I've always had to move 4 work or 2 get experience - and have moved across the other side of our country. People need to open their minds more to work possibilities.

What about contacting all the nursing agencies near you? They may train you up somewhere, I had that happen to me, I was lucky.

Let us know how u get on.

Specializes in med/surg tele, postpartum, mother baby.

I finally after a year and a half of rejections was fortunate enough to get a job in Texas (moved reluctantly from CA but hey its a job and it isn't that bad here actually) I have a friend that moved to N Dakota and started working there, she said they are hiring alot there so if you don't mind living there then I would say check it out there.

Indian Health Service! I loved it. Go to USAjobs.gov or IHS.gov. For me, it was a wonderful experience. I worked on a Navajo reservation. Will go back one day.

Christy, I am an experienced RN (22yrs) and am looking into the IHS. Gallup, NM has lots of openings showing on their site. Where did you work? What was it like? I have worked at a local VA most of my career and hope to keep my benifits and retirement if I go to work for IHS. Would love to hear from you.

I worked at Fort Defiance which is north of Gallup. I have friends that work in Gallup. Fort Defiance is now run by the "tribe" and is no longer under IHS. Gallup is still under IHS and working there you would still be a federal employee. You will still have the same benefits as you do with the VA...fers,tsp, etc. Gallup, Shiprock, Keyenta, Crownpoint, --all still under IHS. Fort Defiance and Tuba City are not.

I miss the rez and sometimes wish I never came back to the V.A. My family and I moved back to south MS after my husband started having some health issues. I was working at the V.A. before going to the Rez. Make sure you service is broken when going from the V.A. to IHS. Somehow they manage to botch it up.

Thanks for the reply. I have applied for a position at the Shiprock Hospital. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Still not sure about the Gallup hospital and area. I was an ICU nurse for years but have been working hospice/rehab/longterm care for the last few years. I don't want to get into a big ICU but wouldn't mind a small one. I did also apply at the VA in Albuquerque for a hospice position, have you been there?
