I highly recommend that you contact the hiring manager directly. At your interview, you should have gotten a business card/someway to contact the manager directly. I would send an email stating something along the lines of "I enjoyed meeting with you on X date. I am confident that I would be a great addition to your team and wanted to send a note expressing my continued interest in the position. Feel free to reach me anytime at (your phone number)."

Hi new nurse! I am a new RN myself from (mid)michigan, and I cannot find a job either! I just graduated in dec and have only been called for one interview, and I must not have gotten the job because I never got a call. I recently have been in contact with a nurse recruiter from the hospitals and she is going to try to help me get an interview! Maybe you can try to contact a recruiter? I think it's just a bad time right now for us.. good luck! :)

Hi! I am also a new grad. I have been working at a local hospital for several years. I have had 3 interviews already, one on the floor I work on as a Tech. I am on medical leave because I got hurt and can't interview while on leave. My classmates that don't already work in a Hospital are also having the same difficulties you are. I know that Schoolcraft College is having a job fair today (prob to late for you to attend). I also know ALL of the Detroit Hospitals are hiring. If you work downtown for a year, you will gain so much experience you will be able to move to a hospital closer to you. I would also suggest contacting recruiters at the different hospitals. I really appreciate your help! I tried to call the HR 2-3 times at both hospitals but no one calls me back. Now that you have mentioned about emailing them, I would try that too. I'm in the U.S. from 6-7 yrs and did not know much about the networking and all that. I wish I knew that earlier. So I thought I can ask for help here. Thank you so much again :)

It seems that LTC is an area many new grads overlook, but LTC facilities almost always want RNs, experienced or not. Certainly, the experience is different from hospitals, but there's still a lot to learn: assessment, med pass for a much larger patient load, and time management! Plus, some LTCs pay more than the hospitals. Good luck!

In May 2013, I graduated from Macomb Community College, and I took my NCLEX in the beginning of June. I passed my NCLEX, and I am licensed now in The State of Michigan. I am starting Oakland University in August for my RN-to-BSN completion, which I should graduate at the end of 2014. It's the first week of July, and I've had only one interview, but I didn't get the position. I have seriously applied for jobs starting my starting last semester of Nursing School, which was in March. I was not one of those who have previous experience by being a nursing assistant, and I think that's the reason for having no luck. I have done everything you can think of by networking with nurse managers that I know, writing thank you cards to each HR person that I speak with, and basically hand delivering my resume to them, but no interviews yet Most of the positions that I see available say minimum of 1 year experience required for the position. If you are a new grad, and have no experience as an RN, how are you supposed to get any positions if they require experience? So overwhelmed!!!!!! I hope that you were able to finally find a job, so there is hope for the rest of us out there looking!
