New grad RN cant find job. HELP

I know many of you who are reading this are experiencing this issue im currently having. I graduated with a BSN 6 months ago. i cant even get an interview. ive been applying absolutely everywhere. i even got my acls thinking it was gonna give me a little boost, but it didnt. can someone please give me some advice or tell me which hospitals are mostly open to new grads because im getting so dicouraged and need to work. I live in NY. Also would it be a bad idea to start in longterm care. i dont want to do this if its going to hurt my career as ive heard it does. thank you so much i would appreciate any advice/feedback.

If you're hurting for money you can find a job at a nursing home through an agency, it's pretty easy. I don't know who told you working at a nursing home hurts your career but they're wrong. I started out in a nursing home and got hired at a hospital and all my co-workers from the nursing home I worked at that I kept in contact with now work in hospitals...well at least the ones who wanted to work in a hospital. Some took supervisor positions or decided to become visiting nurses.

Chances are you're being too picky and now it's time to just find a job. Either work at a nursing home, visiting nursing, a doctor's office or consider moving out of state to gain hospital employment. The longer you stay on the sidelines the less desirable you'll be to employers.

Thank you so much! I would have went into a nursing home a long time ago but I thought I would be able to get a hospital job by now. Didn't know the market for nurses was this tough. I was scared thinking it would be career suicide. But Im looking into nursing homes now! Thank you again !

Are you in a big metropolitan area like NYC. Nursing jobs are tough to find in the big cities. There is a gluttony of new nurses out there.

Don't get fixated on finding a hospital job. Chances are it wont be happening as fast as you imagined it would. Apply in outpatient setting- dr.office, clinic, etc.

I've noticed that places are dying to hire new grads for psych. I know it my not be majority favorite, but it will get your foot in the door and your bills paid. Who knows, you might like it. L

The problem might be with cover letter and or resume. I would recommend asking someone to read it (preferably a nurse) or even post it on here to proofread it and recommend changes. Another tip is to go to a resume workshop my school had one it was super helpful I managed to get a job a month after I got my license. By the way, I live NY (Queens) the job in long-term care I have now requires me going over a bridge or 2 hours on public transportation my ASN. If you can't absolutely can't find a job try a staffing agency like White Glove, they hire fast. However, there's no union, barely any benefits, low pay. Good luck!

Did you have prior experience in the field before graduating? Or did you get hired as a fresh new grad?
