New Grad Orientation Mount Sinai, Miami

Published

I start at Mount Sinai in Miami, FL on Monday 7/26 for their new grad nurse orientation. Anyone else who will be starting as well? I haven't received anything on a schedule, preceptor, etc. or anything at all from HR. All of my onboarding docs are complete, employee health visit and drug screening done, but still nothing. Just wanted to know if there is anyone else in the same boat.

Don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed.  Most likely you will be told what to wear on Monday (scrubs probably), bring lunch, notebook, water bottle and plenty of writing utensils. If you are in a residency program, you probably won't get your preceptor or schedule for a few weeks.  Even when you do - don't expect to get more than a couple weeks at a time.  Until you are fully on your own and are self-scheduling (if you do that there), you most likely won't know.  I was not fully aware of my schedule weeks at a time until I had been an employee for 5 months.

Congrats and good luck.

oh wow, did you used to work at Mount Sinai? Or is this typical of hospitals in South Florida?

It is typical of the hiring process.  I was hired for a PRN position on 6/5. I was never told what day to show up for orientation. On  the Friday before I was supposed to go on Monday orientation they called to tell me not to come… I said great - I work on Mondat and no one has asked about my availability. I've finally made it through orientatiom. I start tomorrow and only know Im supposed to show up at 3. I don't know anything else. I don't even know how to get into my department as its secure. It will be fun…

I am also starting at mount Sinai hospital In Miami. I am starting In 2 weeks and was wondering if you could tell me your experience.
What did they do for the physical? Is it just the usual blood work and questions or do they actually check your body? (Just wondering because I once had a bad experience of having to be completely naked for a physical) what drug test do they do? I am an occasional cigarette smoker and I see that they are a non smoking facility I stopped smoking 1 week ago but I just want to make sure, is the drug test hair, urine or blood? Do they go in and watch you pee or frisk you? Do they ask for the covid vaccine? How was your first day? How soon after starting did you start in your specific unit?
sorry for all the questions I’m overthinking and stressing over starting to work.

thank you!

For the physical, they just do a urine screen. Nothing invasive. No blood. No stripping down or anything at all. They don't go in with you or watch. They did not ask about the Covid vaccine.

The first week is just general orientation. Then the next week you go to your unit. Don't stress!

Thank you!

do you know if they allow jogger scrubs?

Would you mind sharing the details of your orientation/training with Mount Sinai? I start on 8/23 and a bit nervous) I would like to make sure I prepare best for it.

I am most interested in learning about EPIC test. My job offer included condition that I must pass it to secure the job. What was it like? Anything particular to study beforehand?

Thank you in advance!

I start on 8/23 too!

sorry I have so many questions but my HR recruiter never answers my emails

Do they allow joggers?

What color shoes can I wear?

What color does the undershirt have to be?

What color can the jacket be?

im not sure if it varies by unit but I don’t wanna get in trouble on the first day LOL

thanks!

Hi Sel999,

Congrats on your new position ?

Honesty I have exact same questions and so many more:))) I don't even know where and when to go on 8.23. I know that some hospitals in the area do parts of the orientation online, I wonder if its the same with MSMC as well?

Either way, I hope recruiters will provide us with all the necessary info next week.

I’m in the same exact position. I have no idea where to go or at what time I was just told I start on 8/23. I do remember them saying that Monday s would be 8 hours in a class covering important info, that the first week we fully cover epic and then get tested on it.

im gonna email my recruiter again on Monday and hopefully she answers

If you do get response, please let me know. I will email as well, but as you said, they don't always answer them)

Also, did you do your background check yet? Mine is pending for few days now, and their website says its usually about 48 hrs.
