Hello everyone! I'm a newly licensed LPN and I was wondering how long does it take to find a job? I see that a lot of places require you to have at least 6 months experience which I obviously don't have. Are LTC facilities more willing to hire new grads or should I look more into home health agencies?

As a new LVN I found a job the day after I received my temporary license, but this was back in 2006 when the nursing job market was more robust.
In today's employment market you've got to pound the pavement, apply to places in person during business hours and accept the first opportunity that comes your way because there's no nursing shortage in 2015. Good luck to you.

If there were any places you liked during clinicals consider contacting them. Maybe consider psychiatry if you have any interest as that specialty still uses LPNs sometimes. Congratulations and good luck!!

I got hired from the place I did my preceptor. Most of the other students in my class were hired soon after they applied somewhere. I guess it just depends on the job market in your area.
I'm going to start showing up to places to apply and also going to check out my clinical sites too. Thank you for the advice!!!
Good luck to you and congratulations on becoming a nurse!

I applied to a place I did my medication pass clinicals at. I was hired before about 5 days before i graduated or took my NCLEX. Of course this was in 2008 when jobs were more available. It wasn't long afterward that the job prospects dried up and stayed that way for a long time.
I graduated in May 2013 and became an RN. It took a LONG time to land a position even with my LPN experience. And I wasn't alone, many of my fellow students found it difficult to get a position.
I've noticed in the last few month that there are more and more postings for positions. Any the new grads from May and December 14 from the school I attended all landed jobs fairly quickly.
How long it will take you really depends on you and your area. If the area is saturated with nurses (seasoned and new grads) it will be a long haul. If you limit yourself to ONLY wanting to work in certain areas (won't work in LTC or psych or whereever) you further limit your opportunities. As well, if you are not willing to travel outside a small specific area, the prospects go down even more
I got contacted by one of the places I did my med surg clinicals! Going in for an interview Wednesday so wish me luck!
Congrats! Sending good vibes your way!
Thank you!
