New Grad looking to relocate to Charlotte area

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I graduated as an ADN and have finally lost interest in looking in NJ and convinced my wife that relocating to NC might not be a bad idea. Next week I am heading down to visit family and take a look at hospitals. My wife is also a nurse, she has 4 years as a PCU nurse and is completing her orientation to the ER at a local urban trauma hospital.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend hospitals to take a look at while I am in Charlotte. Unfortunately, I have no experience as a working RN. I have taken PALS and ACLS. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

Well if you dig around in other threads, you can find info on the surrounding hospitals.

CMC & Presbyterian are the big two systems. They only accept applications from new grads a few times during the year, so you'll need to keep an eye on their websites.

Personally I didn't have much applying to these two, but did find a GN job in SC (about 30 min south of Charlotte) at Piedmont Medical Center in their ED. There doesn't seem to be a lot of great things being said about PMC, but there seems to have been a big 'housecleaning'.

I'll be moving up there in the fall. So I'm just sharing my experience in applying to area hospitals as a GN.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice.

Do you recall when Piedmont Medical posted their GN positions? When did you apply?

Sorry for all the questions. I graduate from nursing school in December and I am looking forward to moving to either the Charlotte, NC or Rock Hill, SC area.

Thanks!

Look at Carolina's Medical center and Presbyterian, there are always openings online you just have to put out a ton of applications and see what sticks. Also if you need help with housing my husband is a realtor and can help you guys find a place once you get settled in.

I am relocating to Charlotte as well in the next week. Did you have any luck with the job search? I am a new grad as well.

I relocated to Charlotte after graduating in August. Received my license on October 7 and have been diligently applying for jobs since. I have had no response from CMC, Presby or Piedmont; other than the application status on the websites. It's tough out here for a new grad!! I have only been at the job hunt for a few weeks but that is my experience so far! I am getting married next weekend, but after we return from our honeymoon I plan to harass some HR people! Good luck to y'all!

Try corrections.

I am 37 and a new grad (adn) from NY. My view about the job situation down here is you are very lucky if they call you for a position. My friend works for CMC and she told me most positions filled by new grads without being hired from the new grad program are filled by knowing someone (hook up). I should be getting a "hook up" to work in her unit. When you are out of state it is even harder. My advice start networking.

Good luck Canteloupe on getting a position at CMC, my fingers are crossed that your friend can help you out! I graduate next week (whohoo) with my RN, and will be relocating to Charlotte as soon as I pass the NCLEX in February (already started on the paperwork part of the NC license). If anyone at CMC or Presbyterian is interested in letting me "network" through them for a position, I would be forever grateful!

Congratulation on graduating next week. I received my NC temporary license within one week of applying online. Then you have six months to complete it. I didn't get the position yet. I am just waiting for the position to show up onliine in CMC website so the manager can pull it and call me for the interview.

Thank you, I am pretty excited (understatement of the year)! Good luck to you, I hope the position shows up quickly for you! I am hoping to be able to find a position ASAP, but with the economy what it is, I am prepared for just about anything. I applied for the license "by examination" a few days ago, just to get the ball rolling with the background check/fingerprints for NC. I will be taking the NCLEX out of state, but the results will go straight to NC, so hopefully it won't take too terribly long:)
