New Grad Jobs

Published

Hi Guys!

I am graduating in March and was wondering if any of the following hospitals hire new grads. I know of Adventist's and Legacy Health's RN Residency programs, but I am wondering about the other hospitals.

Oregon Health & Science University

Adventist Medical Center

Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center

Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center

Providence Portland Medical Center

Providence Milwaukie

Providence Willamette Falls

Legacy Emanuel

Legacy Good Samaritan

Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center

Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center

I would look at the job openings for these hospitals, and see if the job positions specifies if they "will consider a new grad"

I appreciate that advice. I've seen a few job posts that consider us newbies but not very many, so I'm getting a little nervous.

Providence in WA seems open to hiring new grads to a wide variety of positions. That said, I've heard that the market in the Portland area is somewhat saturated. Providence WA has new grad residencies for the OR and a few other units, but they specifically state "residency" in the job posting. Pretty much all of the new grads I know have gotten their jobs by communicating directly with the hiring manager, whether in person or via email. Good luck!

Ps: edited to add, always start with the units where you did your clinicals/practicum if at all possible!

I would personally apply at various hospitals all over the country for a new grad residency program and take whatever I got. After 2 years move where you want to move, either back home or to Hawaii......

I've been thinking about getting a Washington license in order to broaden my job search. I'll look at job posts for that hospital.

How would I directly contact the dept manager besides going in person? Where do I get her number/email?

Go online or call ask for recruiters of hiring managers in the department you're applying for.

If you're willing to go rural, I know that Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay (south coast) welcomes new grads. We also have a new Bridge program that lasts 12 weeks that provides preceptors, learning opportunities in units throughout the hospital, and extra classroom instruction. I went through it and it was really helpful. Hard to move so far away though--it's four hours from Portland.

Thank you but moving is not really an option for me. I already had to move to Las Vegas in order to go to nursing school, so I want to come home to Portland and stay.

OHSU hires new grads- but I think you have to get into their internship program.

Hi, cynmrn!

Could you please give more info on Bay Area Coos Bay Hospital? I used to live in Bandon, and would love to go back. I have been searching for jobs but it seems that they want at least 1 year experience to get hired. It makes sense since they are smaller hospitals and don't have the resources to train new grads.

So I was really surprised to see that Bay Area Coos Bay Hospital offers new grad programs. I'd appreciate more info, since I couldn't find anything on their website.

Thank you!

Hi Guys!

I am graduating in March and was wondering if any of the following hospitals hire new grads. I know of Adventist's and Legacy Health's RN Residency programs, but I am wondering about the other hospitals.

How often does Providence and Legacy open up their new graduate application? Every six months?

Winter, summer and fall only?

I am willing to relocate to Oregon for a nursing job. I already have my Oregon RN license number, via endorsement.

I have been working as a hospital CNA for a little more than a year. i'm quite worried as I have graduated from nursing school last year in May, and I am slowly LOSING my nursing skill. The new graduate program at the hospital I work at tends to be wishy-washy with the standards they apply to applicants for their program. I know this girl from my nursing school class who got into the ICU new grad program, yet she's only worked at the hospital for only four months, did not even participate in hospital committee activities, not even that great at being an ICU tech, yet got into the program? This is why I'm quite skeptical with my future nursing career prospect with my current employer.

Okay, enough of my belly aching. ;)
