New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

I'm about to finish my studies this month. Now if ever I pass my IELTS this July and I get to wait for my registration, is there any way I can extend my visa so I have enough time to search for a sponsor? My visa will expire on Aug. BTW. the only option i know is to take another course to extend my stay here. Please help

hi wingcharm, what school are you enrolled in? what type of visa do you have right now?

thanku ilove83080 for your advice. i am also thinking the same. let's see what can be done. i'll ask ihna if they still have slots for september intake.

simonep don't ask them, just send over a letter of interest for their september intake and comply with their requirements. you can't reserve a slot if you don't get interviewed. :) but don't go for it if they don't offer you september or if they don't have news yet that they have further extend the re-accreditation to any slot they have after september.:nurse:

Is it required to pass an NBI clearance and statutory declaration for the 456 visa application? thanks

do you guys know the appropriate visa for Mercy Health? Is it student or business class? thanks in advance!

Mercy Health requires a 456 business short stay visa

According to a forumer, CON's list of enrollees for this year is already full. I don't know what to do now since I just lodged my application to CON 2 or 3 weeks ago. Help!

hi thank you for a clearer view on these 2 pathways for overseas nurses wanting to work in Australia.

I just want to ask- what if you still have not achieved a score of 7 in ielts as the end of your conversion program approaches or up until the program has ended, can you still apply to AHPRA any time after graduation as long as you have the required 7 in ielts? or is it mandatory to apply for registration 2-3 months before graduation? Thanks

Don't know where BigGuest2012 got the idea that if you were going to live here in Australia that you can pass your IELTS. That mentality didn't work with one Filipino nurse I know. She now works part time as a Carer, enrolled herself in an English class in the hope to pass the IELTS again, meantime do you think an employer will wait for her when there are applicants aplenty?

You are better off sitting in an IELTS review centre and pass your IELTS than taking risks that doesn't make any sense. If you are planning to spend other people's money to pay for your Aussie dream then spend it responsibly. IELTS is valid for 2 years. You know you need that 7 for Registration and Work. You should be concentrating on looking for work after your BP or Conversion course not worry about passing your IELTS.

Hi jim,

Why are you having second thoughts about UniSA?do you have your LOE already?

Hi jim,

Hey manchoo,

Im confused because...

1.What about life after the course?

2.Is student visa extendable??

3.What if i cant find a job in my visa period??(visa period after course is just one month. In that period, v must register with AHPRA and NMC and job hunting...!! seems impossible in the current context.)

Clues???!!

Thanks

"got the idea" ??? what are you talking about? what i wrote was as follows (since you preferred to criticise me out of context rather than quote what i actually wrote)

quote

you can apply for registration with ahpra towards the end of your conversion course. obviously if you have chosen one of the courses that only require ielts 6.5 (ecu and murdoch) you will need to get an ielts of 7 at some time before you approach ahpra. that should be not difficult at all if you are studying in australia for 12 months! take the time to assimilate into the community, as you should do, speak and breathe english while you have the chance, ielts is not easy.

end quote

in the complete post i set out all the options, and it would be entirely up to the individual to decide which option they wish to persue; in the quoted section above i made it crystal clear that if you do enter with ielts 6.5 then you most definitely need to get ielts 7 before applying to ahpra.

but really... how hard is it for a graduate, knowing all this beforehand, to advance from 6.5 to 7 when he/she is living in an english speaking country for several months ? if i were in such a situation i would make it a priority to do everything necessary to improve my english skills. too often in australia i observe filipinos not assimilating but instead talking tagalog or cebuano amongst themselves and staying in their own little world together. i would venture to say your friend did not make the necessary effort and perhaps should have enrolled in her english classes upon arrival in australia.

has anyone got their LOE from WA already? a friend of mine is asking.
