New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

hi, new here. hope someone can guide me through this. my mother told me that i could go to AU and be a nurse there provided that i study. She got the idea from a friend.so i stumble in this thread [which i want to say, a mighty thank you to the creator and all of its posters ^^ it helped me a lot. very informative  also like the apple and orange story :yeah:] and had read up till page100 and skip to 900.

i might consider this opportunity. But the thing is, i'm not so sure actually because

first, financial status not so good.

well actually my mother is saying that she would borrow money from my aunts, which is kinda ok buy my real concern is if i would be able to repay the debt while/after i take the BP.[i don't like having debt .]

second, is the time.

i haven't had any experience. not even as a trainee. so yeah, a rather slim/hard chance in finding work after BP. i'm considering on doing some training now but my mother would like me to fix my documents immediately. so i'm weighing the situation. would it be wise to go now without experience :thankya: and hope for the best or i'll get some experience now before i go and try my luck if there are still available?

what do you think? hope to here from you

btw, I have read that there are some uni/school offering scholarship/study now pay later well not sure as i haven't research schools yet but yeah i think that solves my first prob.still i want some insights ^^ oh, and just a recent board passer, the july2011 one btw

TIA hope to here from you :D

Hi...can i ask if all these schools require full payment on their tuition fees at the time you enroll?

Hi.. :) if im not mistaken, by the time you apply, some schools require only a deposit to ensure your slot.. However, you need to pay in full upon enrolment :)

Hello :) we're on the same boat.. Im a recent passer december 2011.. :) i believe AHPRA requires atleast 3 months hospital experience (paid or unpaid) they also require an ielts of 7 in all bands..

Do you know about credit prior learning system of some Uni in australia? You can enrol in their school as a graduate entry and they would assess your qualifications.. If you are eligible, the normal 3 years that you need to complete for your course (bachelor of nursing) can be cut by 1 to 1 1/2 year depending on the credit points you get.. If your mother really wanted you to study and granting that you do not have experience at all and she can afford to send you to university, why not? you might as well try your luck? :)

However, you must take into consideration the tuition fees :) BP for 3 months costs 10k-14k..

Bachelor of nursing costs 11k-14k per sem and you need to complete atleast 4 sems :)

Yes some universities offer sholarships and you can apply for that, just check out their websites :)

If you're not in a hurry, why don't you gain some experience first and then lodge your application to ahpra and see how it goes.. If your unsuccessful (knockwood) then you can opt to study instead of doing the BP :)

There are not scholarships for undergrad nor postgrad student nurses unless you are an Australian citizen, even then these are not freely given out, willy nilly. The reason schlorships are there is to encourage locals to take up nursing giving it to overseas nurses defeats the scholarships purpose.

anyone who has received something like this?

your application has been assessed and has been referred to the registration committee for consideration on friday 8/6/2012. we will advise accordingly following the meeting.

how long will it take them to inform me the final outcome of my application? thank you.

hi! what state did you submit your application? :)

Thanks Dream.

Yup I have read the conditions[ for the BP actually] not sure for the BSN but i do heard of the credit thing. Well I was aiming for the BP since it's shorter and less expensive. I don't want to burden my parent since I still got 2 siblings that are studying [if only i could finance my self :uhoh3:]. Anyway thanks for your insight. As of now i'm trying to find who would take me as a trainee.

how bout you, if I may ask, what is your plan?

also hope to hear from others

Ooops sorry to mislead.. It's just that a friend of mine (not an australian citizen) got her scholarship in a university in brisbane.. So instead of paying certain amount, it was cut by 5k :)

Thanks Dream.

I actually have friends who's studying in queensland now for 2 years..

My plan A is for me to get the 3 months hospital experience after i pass the ielts exam next month.. And then after the three months i would lodge my application to ahpra and wait for the result..

Plan B would be for me to apply to university for advnce standing..

Plan C.. Im still thinking :) hihihi

How much is your quoted tuition fee? I also have an offer with 1 year duration of study. Will have to earn 16 credit units.

At Deakin, i think their annual fee for 2012 for BN is 24,140 as i've seen in their website :)

They have a quote for me lower than that but im a bit unsure because i might pay additional when i get there. The said 12,800 per trimester. Is that good for 1 sem only? Thanks!
