New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Hi. I just want to know what ceridwyn said in one of the threads regarding the 24-week bridging program in Western Australia which does not require AHPRA. DOes this only apply to US-registered nurses? Thank you.

Its university of South Australia, you still need to go through AHPRA process after completing course and with the 7 in IELTS.

guys, help! we're about to have our PPD and DTap shots. which one do we need to undertake first? does ppd affect dtap vaccination or does dtap give false ppd readings? we're about to have our shots within the week and we're not sure which one to take first. thanks guys :)

congrats! good luck!

hi mam ychelle anne! i'm also for UniSA come April 3 2012! i guess if all goes well, i'll be meeting you soon!!! have you applied for the 573 visa? mine was lodged just monday. you should have done your PE by this time. how can i contact you?? :)

hi there i have already lodged my student visa application, while waiting, should i have my immunization shots or should i wait for the embassy to communicate with me?

about the required immunizations is it wise to have the shots here in the philippines or have them in australia?

Hi! I just have a few questions about completing my application, hope those who've done this can help me out :D

- in question 5 principal place of practice: I’m not entirely sure about this coz this would depend on where I could find work soonest after I finish the BP. If I put NSW for application purposes and end up working in a different state later, would there be problems? And if I’m submitting the application to WA or some other state, is that ok?

- Question 11: details of qualificationà is this “Bachelor of Science in Nursing” then the name of university for the institution? How about for the additional qualification/exams? Should I also put the local Nurse Licensure Exam and NCLEX here?

- Question 13: is the statement of service the same s certificate of employment? When they say it should describe the role in which I was employed, does indicating “Full Time Registered Staff Nurse” suffice, or do I have to attach a full detailed job description? (I’m not sure if our HR issues those:uhoh3:)

- Curriculum vitae s

o after getting my license I didn’t start working rightaway coz of unavailability of jobs and coz I took other exams. Is this enough reason/explanation for the gap in practice history part?

o What can I use as evidence for continuing professional development? Training/seminar certificates e.g. BLS/ALS?

o Am I the one to sign the CV and affirm it’s true and correct, or an authority (e.g. manager)?

- Payment

o if I placed NSW as my intended state of practice in question 5, then I have to pay $220 + 115 + 104, right?

o Can I use somebody else’s credit card?

I'm still trying to decide on the state where I should submit my application. WA was my initial choice but it seems there's been a bul of applicants there recetnly. any suggestions? Thanks a lot everyone!

To those people going to IHNA or have gone to IHNA for their BP,

A colleague of mine back home is telling me that IHNA will accept students who haven't gotten the AHPRA LOE. She failed her IELTS test in writing and speaking. She even asked for referrals for homestays near IHNA. How could that be? :uhoh3:

Before I got my LOE from AHPRA and went to ETEA, I did get a slot from VCHN (old name of IHNA). They conducted a phone interview which I obviously passed. But my acceptance to their bp was pre-conditioned on the final release of my LOE before I can start. But by the time I got my LOE, all their intakes for the year have already been filled. That's why I applied and got in to ETEA.

in Question 5 (principal place of practice) - i'm pretty sure I didn't put an Australian address in here simply because I am not in Australia. I just wrote "USA".

Question 11 (qualifications) - I wrote "Bachelor of Science in Nursing" then the whatever else is required under it. And that's it. I did not write NCLEX or any other exams or continuing education that I took.

Question 13 (statement of service) - it's the same as certificate of employment. My HR officer did not include a detailed job description but just an overview of what I do at work.

Curriculum Vitae - I have a year gap before I started working and that's because I took IELTS, NCLEX, plus the processing times those entail. And I included that in the CV. The HR officer signed mine.

Continuing Professional Development - I included EVERYTHING. Even the simplest 1 hour training we had for Charting/Documentation. And I sent copies of ALL.

----

But of course, this is my case. It may not be the same for everyone but at least you have an idea. I did not have any problems with my application (other than it took a while for my approval). Also, with the application, I included a letter/note on every page or every documents I included that I think needs further information. Like in question 5, I included a letter explaining the reason why I put "USA".

Good luck.

Hello there fellow nurses. It's been nice hearing your stories and experience of applying for BP here in OZ. I' am scheduled for an interview in IHNA on 21st of March, anyone who can give me pointers in passing the interview? (my anxiety level is on heaps ) And how long does subclass 456 take? I' am currently here in OZ in student visa and I'm not really sure if I should continue my studies in Uni or go home and prepare for the requirements needed for the 456. Thank you for your advice! :)

hi! you may undergo your bp with a student visa, since your already there.. why not extend it? what's making you consider going home for a 456 visa? :) just curious... :specs:

Hello everyone.. I've been reading everything about CON IRON and i haven't read or it was not stated there anything regarding the pre-requisite hospital experience.. Do they require hospital experience or not? IF YES, is there anyone here who happens to have a link of CON regarding their required hospital experience? TIA! ;)

also, Is it okay to start having my immunizations now? even if i haven't lodged my application to AHPRA yet? :lol2: TIA again!!! :)

Hello Sir Joiemike, does ETEA have minimum years of hospital experience requirement before we can apply for their IRON? I was looking over their website and i haven't read anything about it.. Also, can i start with my immunizations now even if i haven't lodge my application to AHPRA yet? Thanks! :)

I don't think they will accept without the LOE because they will ask for it prior to the phone interview they conduct.I will be having my BP there this april. Do you know any place near the school? Thanks joiemike!
