Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
I'm on your side brother. Just keep the possitivity coming. You're one of the forumers here that pours good news to us that keeps our hopes lighted up.
People that are part of the situation only post to keep the reality alive. You can believe possively as much as you like but you must also be aware of the reality of situations. For examPle believe you are an experienced nurse because you have 3 months volunteer experience. Reality is that if you want to apply for an independent permanent resides visa from Australia no amount of praying or positive thinking is going to give you that experience. Fact
I speak from working with nurses from the Phillipines have little experience, they did not make it clinically and then tried pr route did not make it. But they believed if they thought positively a magic spell would give them the experience to survive clinical and/or give them pr visa.
Please have a positive attitude and believe in yourself but as an educated person also be aware of the rules regs and facts.
Hi ceridwenRN,I would like to ask for clarification regarding the points system. If for example, I'm going to be applying for an employer sponsored working visa, do I still need the 65 points for my application for PR status? Do I still need to go through ANMC then? I'm kinda confused with this points system thing. I thought this points system is only for those applying for PR directly and independently from abroad without a present job. I'm hoping to be working soon in Sydney and will be looking for a job anywhere in NSW. Can you give me the link from the DIAC website? Thanks.
hi! if via general skilled migration, i reckon it's possible (but not guaranteed) that you can get the 65 points even if you don't have 1 year aussie/overseas exp if: you can have nsw state to sponsor you, partner in SOL (skilled occupation list), 25-32 years old, IELTS 8, community language (tagalog). just try computing and validate.
refer to this link for the computation: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-test.pdf
example (without taking into consideration work experience, also applicable to RN with zero exp!!!):
25 years old: 30 points
ielts 8: 20 points
nursing qualification recognised by anmac: 10 points
tagalog as credentialed community language: 5 points
boyfriend/girlfriend with profession under SOL: 5 points
nomination by nsw state: 10 points
total: 80 points
about nomination by nsw, nsw will only sponsor you if you already have 65points. It's unclear if nsw will sponsor you if you have 65points without nsw sponsorship or it's okay for them to sponsor you to get additional 10points to reach 65points (confusing lol!)
if via ENS, i'm not sure if the requirement is either 3 years exp (aussie/overseas) or year3 RN (2yrs exp).
GSM or ENS, you still need to be assessed by ANMAC. with GSM, you get 10 points when you get assessed by ANMAC. i'm not sure if there's a points system for ENS, but there's a criteria that needs to be satisfied for ENS.

once upon a time i was a forum member aspiring to work in australia but got discouraged by xxx inside and outside of this forum. migrating to australia is VERY HARD that's why i'm posting POSITIVE MESSAGES BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCES to lift your spirits up. since it's based on my own experiences, it's not fantasy, it really happened, it's true. i just want to inform you what will happen to those who finished bridging program. what happened to me is i got interviewed for a job, got a job and sponsorship, and now working as RN and i love it!!!
MAKE YOUR AUSSIE DREAM A REALITY!!!!! :)
Unfortunately you cannot claim a community language unless tested by NAATI which means interpreter quality. I have heard quite a few trying to get points this way, but have failed the test. Heard it is as hard as h...
It's like being tested for English. You may have been born in a country, does not necessarily mean you know the language.
And to claim a partner you need to prove a true de facto relationship for sometime and partner to have paid employment for the past 12 months in that occupation.
Also there does not appear to be 10 points for a positive letter from ANAMC just the 15 points for a bachelor degree...as I said before experience and you will get that by working in Australia with paid employment.

Good luck with your endeavour. Thought you already had a contract with a hospital and sponsorship?

ceridwenRN was referring to 'Skilled - Independent (Migrant) (subclass 175) visa'. If you are not going to be working in the following areas
Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne, you can apply for an 857 visa or an 887 visa. (Regional sponsored visas)
Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 121/856) would be the other option if you are going to be working in NSW
The best route is always the one sponsored/nominated by your employer, you won't have to worry about points.
The 175 visa will set you back AUD7000+
I have listed below the immunisations recommended by LTU.
Hepatitis A
Influenza
Measles
Rubella
Tetorifice
Varicella (Chickenpox)
Diphtheria
Hepatitis B
HPN1 Influenza
Mumps
Tuberculosis (TB)
Meningococcal C
Pertussis (whooping cough)
Polio
I don't have a baby book and so I don't have records of having received vaccines for BCG, DPT, OPV, HEP B, and measles. I have experienced chickenpox when I was 7 years old.
I did some research and these are some of the vaccines that can be given to adults. These are mostly combination vaccines because I want to minimize the number of times I get injections. (I'm not sure though if all these are available in the Philippines)
for Hep A and B - Twinrix
for Measles, Rubella, and Mumps - Priorix
for Tetorifice, Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Polio - Adacel Polio, Boostrix - IPV
for Meningococcal C - Meningitec
for Influenza - Fluarix, Fluad
For those who have already finished or are still undergoing the vaccinations, please comment on the list I have made. If you know of other brands of vaccines which are more affordable, please inform me. I have no idea yet how much are those that I've listed above. I still have to make an appointment with our family doctor though.
Is there a vaccine for HPN1 Influenza available here in the Philippines?
Do I need to get vaccinated again for TB?
Help...
CeridwenRN,Don't you have a 457 visa already? Why go through the points system?
yes i'm on 457. but i still need to gain more exp (requirement: RN grade3 or 3yrs exp) via ENS. if with GSM, i can immediately apply. but i reckon i'll just gain more exp with my 457 and not rush through my PR, since i may get the "living away from home allowance" so less tax..

After sponsorship runs out you need pr status and will need 65 points for that visa. Just look up Diac website. You are correct Joiemike you only apply to anamc if you want the pr visa to be an independent skilled worker and do not want/require sponsorship to remain in Australia and to have work rights.
