Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
i need your opinion. please help. i already got a letter of determination that says suitable for migration from ANMAC (aussie nsg and midwifery accred council). but i'm not sure if i can get the 65 points. so the letter of determination from ANMAC is worthless in my case? if i wait for 1 year, then i might get that 65 points, but my IELTS would have expired by that time.
Thanks for the input.Yes. It's just that my family is going to Perth soon under subclass 457. I just graduated this March 2011. Took June 2011 Nurses Licensure Exam, passed and ranked 11th nationwide. Praise God for that! It's really not easy to land in a nursing job if you graduated here in the Philippines. There are even graduates last last year that are not yet employed. Sad truth.
"You don't have any experience and you want to work abroad. You will be competing with experienced nurses who want the same job you are after or new graduates who speak their language and do not need to be applied for sponsorship" ->it would appear like that. I'll be rubbing elbows with experienced and local nurses. That's really scary for a fresh graduate like me and taking that I'll be with my family there and I am a registered nurse in the Philippines, better yet do something about my course and make it flourish there. I just pray things will go well. I don't know what God has for me. I'm afraid I will not end up as a nurse in Australia.
Here's hoping. :)
P.S.
Everyone, you think AHPRA would turn me down because I'm a fresh and unemployed registered nurse??
I'm afraid you will have a hard time finding a BP school that will accept you. They need at least 1 to 2 yrs experience depending in which school. My niece last year was able to enroll with ACFE without work experience but they stopped accepting fresh grads shortly after that. According to my niece, there were some after her that were dropped from the course because they couldn't handle the clinical placement with no work experience at all. Remember that we have to show our competence in RLE. The obstacles are that we have to get used to their system here, their equipment, the supplies, and medications. Oh boy, the medications are all brand names. They rarely use the generic names. And the brands they are using are different from ours back home. I'm not saying you won't be accommodated, but I'm just telling you that your options for BP schools will severely be limited. While applying for registration with AHPRA, why don't you start volunteering to gain some experience? I'm with ETEA for the clinicals now and many of us are placed in hospitals. The hospital environment is fast. You have to constantly be on your toes to immediately absorb what the staff is going to teach you. You are being oriented to a particular ward for one day only. The next day, you will already be on your own. I was put in critical care for my 1st two weeks. Mostly cardiac patients. Good thing I have about 2 yrs ER experience. Used to the fast pace. I like the adrenaline rush of the fast environment. Now, I'm assigned in the surgical ward for another 2 weeks. Slower pace, but doesn't mean no work. Just different duties. You have to show eagerness and "can do" attitude. The best case scenario is the hospital might offer you a job after the placement. The worst case scenario is they will be your "referee" come job hunting time. Very important to have a referral from the clinical placement here so your prospective employer will get an idea of your competence. Anyway, good luck on your path to the Ozzie dream. There are many ways to "kill a cat". Mine is the most straightforward one. You can do it another way for as long as we reach the same destination. Cheers!!

Yep, experience for 'skilled migration and yes waste of time to get anamc assessment they only last so long.. until you are a skilled migrant.
You only apply to anamc if you want a permanent residency visa. To qualify for this you need to be a skilled immigrant this means getting the 65 points - mainly gained by at least 3 years of paid experience. After all it is for skilled immigration visa if you have next to nothing with 3 months experience is not exactly a skilled migrant - more like a person with a qualification.
Why do you say that it's a complete waste of time and money? And just wanna ask everyone what evidence will i present if the form states "Include evidence of continuing professional development as per the Board's Continuing Professional Registration standard" (I am a fresh. unemployed registered nurse in the Phils)I read www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Registration-standards/aspx already. but it didn't really gave me that clear idea especially with overseas nurses who are yet to lodge an application...
Thank you.
Read the whole post/comment. Can't be bothered repeating the answer again especially if you only quote that statement and not the one after it.
i will get that 65 points!
Hi ceridwenRN,
I would like to ask for clarification regarding the points system. If for example, I'm going to be applying for an employer sponsored working visa, do I still need the 65 points for my application for PR status? Do I still need to go through ANMC then? I'm kinda confused with this points system thing. I thought this points system is only for those applying for PR directly and independently from abroad without a present job. I'm hoping to be working soon in Sydney and will be looking for a job anywhere in NSW. Can you give me the link from the DIAC website? Thanks.
just received my IELTS result.i didnt made it.got 6.5 in speaking.i have to retake it again on december 10,huh! i will try to send my IELTS result to the embassy together with my expired IELTS ang will attach a letter informing them that I'm retaking IELTS as soon as possible.i just hope they will still grant me the visa. anybody from cebu?can you recommend me a good IELTS review center? has anyone tried VIP Language Center at the back of cebu doctors hospital?
