New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Now I am getting worried. Maybe because there are a lot of applicants lately. I will just wait for another week before I email them. A friend of mine also sent her application ahead of me and AHPRA already confirmed that they have received the documents. Yes my documents are complete.

Yeah, you could just give for another week then if you're to email them do not forget to place the name who signed or received your document so they can trace it. But for now lets be optimistic and pray harder..:dncgcpd:

Re : IELTS Writing

To all those having a hard time getting the minimum score in writing, I suggest you continue to practice on your own. Continue reading newspapers, especially opinion columns and editorials. Try to follow the writing style. Then, you can research or download sample IELTS test questions from the net. You can also go to National bookstore and check their IELTS manuals and copy the writing test questions. You don't have to buy them. But if you can afford the price, go ahead. The manual comes with an Audio CD.

Anyway, you can practice on your own with writing. Make sure to be conscious of the time limit given per task. But you have to have somebody check and critique your work for you. You can go to your alma mater and look for an English essay teacher that can help you out. Somebody I know hired one for, I think, P1,000.00 for 1 month. ;)

I agree with what joiemike has shared with regard to writing tasks (1&2) in IELTS exam. I believe that we all know how to write atleast a simple essay and interpret graphs since we've done this while we were in high school and college. I think one of the most important thing to do is to practice (a lot) and be conscious of the time you spent for each task. If you can finish the task like 5-10 minutes ahead of the time alloted for each category, the better because during the actual exam, a lot of other factors might affect your chance of completing the essay on time (anxiety, stress, pressure). If you have the luxury of time preparing for the exam, I would suggest that every time you do the practice test treat it as if it's really the actual exam by 1) following the sequence of subtests (listening, reading, writing) 2) if your IELTS exam is 9am-12nn then practice during that time too, so that your bio-clock and bio-rhythm will now slowly adapt to this kind of routine and that your brain will able to adjust with that kind of mental exercise. This kind of preparation worked for me :-)

Yes they do accept volunteer work experience... I think someone here posted that AU understands that its hard for Filipino nurses to get stable jobs in Phil... So no worries about that...

God bless on your IELTS!! Keep practicing your writing... If this helps, I got 6.5 in my writing the first time I took IELTS 4 years ago, I focused on this area when I took my IELTS again 2years after and got 7.5, just last month I took IELTS for the third time since the previous one expired again, and I got 8!!:yeah: So just keep on practicing and Im sure you can do it!!!:yeah:

Now i'm feeling pressure! haha! thanks again, mhai! :nurse:

Well guys, "patience is a virtue". In my case, it took me a 1 year and two months to be exact before i was given an eligibility letter from the ahpra. I was really on the brink of giving up then but when i finally received the letter, i realized that it was indeed a perfect timing for me because should i received it earlier, i might be taking up my BP here in SA alone and away from my family. But God is so good that He really planned for me well. He maybe delayed the process so i can come here together with my family. My husband was granted a masters degree scholarship so after my schooling and before my visa lapses, i can extend my stay here using a dependant visa. God has a perfect plan for us all... Have faith...

What other schools in Victoria and WA are still offering bridging programs (aside from HPH, IHNA, ETEA, AAON, Mercy Health, La Trobe, UB, Deakin)? I was confident that I could get into a bridging program before my 1 year eligibility letter expires (which is in about 11 months) But when I started inquiring from the schools, I learned that some are no longer offering the program. So I am in semi-panic mode now. I have already submitted my application to IHNA, HPH, AAON, and Deakin.

The following are not offering BP for 2012:

Royal Perth Hospital

St. Vincent's and Mercy Private Hospital

Royal Women's Hospital

Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

hi guys, i know i have read it somewhere here in the thread but i just couldn't remember what page, anyway i would just like to ask for help from those who encountered the same problem. ahpra is asking for a certified copy of the course outline or student handbook from the university where i graduated my bsn. they want an outline of the courses conducted, and the theoretical and clinical units undertaken within each course. however, i already sent a summary of academic and rle in my whole bsn course and it was clearly indicated there the no. of units and the theoretical hours. if that is not what they are asking for, then what is it? aside from that they are asking me to confirm the state or territory where i intend to be employed once i gain my registration. please help me. thanks...

Oh no.... How come they're not offering BP next year anymore? Does anybody here know if they are going to stop allowing foreign nurses like us to take BP....huhuhu...:uhoh3:

They are definitely making it harder for foreign nurses to be able to go there. Just today, I received an email from mercy health and one of the things mentioned was that they now require 3 years work experience :(

This is absolutely true. My colleague can attest to this 3 years work experience required by Mercy Health.

They are definitely following the trend in NZ..... i.e. Increasing the minimum work experience.

I heard from others that IHNA (previously VCHN) has increased their required work experience from 1 year to 2 years. At ACFE, they used to receive enrollees withe zero work experience. Now, they require 1 year. To think this is on top of the mandatory IELTS requirement as of this month.

And judging from the trend, this is going to be even tougher to get a bp slot in the coming months. So, the moral lesson is, apply for as many bp schools as possible as soon as you get the AHPRA letter. And grab the first offer given and not wait for other bp schools to, hopefully, give you a slot. :uhoh3:

3 years work experience??? does volunteer work still being considered by these institutions or does it have to be a paid or as a regular staff nurse experience? huhuhu...this is such a bad news for us who are still planning to pursue this path:crying2:
