New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Check the NZNC website. All the details and instructions are there. But I warn you. The situation in NZ right now is very tight, both for bp and job placements. I already had NZNC eligibility letter July last year. Until now, I could not get in a slot for the bp anywhere in NZ. I even asked for extension from the council and they granted me 6 months. I hired an agency last year at the cost of US $500 just to help look for a bp school but still no luck. Decided to apply for registration with AHPRA last Dec so I have a fallback option. Good thing got granted eligibility last month and I'm off to Melbourne end of this month for ETEA's Oct intake.

I also had 2 colleagues who've gone through the bp in NZ last year. Took them 5 months to find a job. And to think they had 3 years work experience in ER. They landed in a nursing home. :crying2::confused::crying2:

Hi! how come until now you cant find a CAP provider in New Zealand? how many years of experience do you have? Anyway I also want to congratulate you for getting your eligibility in Australia. With regard to APHRA, once receiving an approval letter from them, how many months do they give you to find a bridging course provider? Because I know the situation in NZ is that NCNZ will only give 18months after receiving the decision letter to find a CAP provider. Is it also the same with Australia?

Hi there! I'm just a newbie here. :) Been reading this thread for a week now and I've acquired very useful information from the posts. Indeed, a very helpful guide to many Filipino nurses who want to work in OZ.

Just want to share to everyone that I have already an eligibility letter from AHPRA (thank GOD) sent to me last June 29. In addition, an offer letter from CON was also forwarded to me via post that I am accommodated on their Sept 26 intake. However, I have questions regarding the requirements of the NSW health dept, such as immunizations and the like. Will someone enlighten me about my issue. :) It would be really appreciated.

1. Adult dose of DPT. Do i need to have another shot?

2. MMr and Varicella. A certification from an MD would be enough? or do i need to have my IgG checked? :)

My visa is SHort stay visa, multiple entry. I got it on August 13.

Hi! may I know until when is your eligibility from APHRA would last? does it state in your eligibility letter until when it is VALID?

Hi guys. This thread has been very informative as I am also applying for bridging.

My IELTS was accepted by AHPRA before it expired in April 2011 and so I still got the eligibility letter from them. The BP provider that I am currently contacting is accepting my expired IELTS. Can anyone advise me if IELTS is still needed for when I look for a job after BP? Will the hospitals/nursing homes need current IELTS?

Any response in regards to this is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I know for a fact that AHPRA will not release your RN license after the bp with an expired IELTS. I am in the same situation as you are. My previous IELTS will expire 26th of this month. My RN niece in Australia told me to retake the IELTS because her colleague's license was delayed because her IELTS expired by the time she graduated from bp. Additionally, DIAC will not also process your working visa with an expired license. So, I presently have a current IELTS test result which I took July 30. I'm about to enter the Oct intake at ETEA. God bless. ;)

I have 21 months work experience at ER.

You are only given 1 year to undergo the bp without extensions. At least that's what AHPRA Victoria told me in the letter. But I heard the Perth office gives 2 years. I'm not sure. Could anyone confirm this? :clown:

Anyone doing Enrolled Nurse (Div. 2) bridging??? :nurse:

Is that what AHPRA has stated in your eligibility letter? Oh boy, enrolled nurse (div 2) is not in the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) of DIAC. You might not be able to get a working visa nor be a PR in Australia. RN (div 1) is the only qualification acceptable. :uhoh3:

I have a friend who's on the same boat enrolled at Flinders too, He's doing just fine. But i still have to think about it again, anyway i also have another friend who's in sydney enrolled in a uni but not with a BP and said she will retake ielts since she didn't get all 7, but that's after she graduates.

> you will spend more money to go through 1 years course than 3 month course.. therefore even if you will retake the ielts 10x until you get all 7, still you will spend less money for that ielts than that 1 year course..

> your problem is in writing, 6.5..... i'll be frank with you, staying 1 year in Oz will greatly help your speaking skills, but it will not really help your writing skills.. im taking my ielts again, frankly, i write better before than now, that's why i have to review/practice so as to regain that level of skills i had when i was still in pinas..

that's why settle that ielts 7 in pinas, that's the most prudent thing to do.. save your money, retake the ielts 10x if needed, enjoy the nightlife in pinas while you are there.. still you save a lot than that 1 year course..

Hi! I am a Filipino nurse. I have read from APHRA's criteria that the Nursing Degree must be "University-based" I have finished my 4-yr Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a COLLEGE and not from a University. What are my chances to get the approval from APHRA?

I hope somebody can help me here.

Thanx!

..

don't worry about that "university" thing... you're fine, just submit the complete documents...

To others who will or gone through CON, please answer the questions.... thanks....

my initial answers are:

1) what do you mean by "another" shot? meaning you had a shot when you were a baby or when you are an adult? if you are referring that when you were a baby, then, you must get an adult shot..

2) MMR, there is an adult vaccs for this...

3) Varicella, i had MD certification that i had chickenjoy before...

He's a pulmologist. He did my TST too haha! He just told me a certification is enough. =( I should just seek another MD then, it would be safer I guess. =) haha! I'll figure it out, then share it here soon :D

Hi guys! ^ _ ^ it's me again. Has anyone here been given an eligibility letter without taking the IELTS and submitting a letter from schools that u were taught in english instead?

Has anyone also submitted letters stating that the medium of instruction is in english and was still required/asked by AHPRA to take an IELTS?

Thanks in advance! :-)

That is moot already. Please read the new AHPRA English guidelines to be implemented starting middle of this month. It's definitely IELTS for us Filipinos to be eligible. ;)
