Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Good day! Im new here. and ive been reading different posts here. I was just wondering, if anyone could help me about the requirements in applying for the registration in nursing council new zealand? I just passed my ielts exam. And i have no idea where to start my application now, because im not applied to any agency or consultancy firm. Thank you so much
Hi there! I'm just a newbie here. :) Been reading this thread for a week now and I've acquired very useful information from the posts. Indeed, a very helpful guide to many Filipino nurses who want to work in OZ.Just want to share to everyone that I have already an eligibility letter from AHPRA (thank GOD) sent to me last June 29. In addition, an offer letter from CON was also forwarded to me via post that I am accommodated on their Sept 26 intake. However, I have questions regarding the requirements of the NSW health dept, such as immunizations and the like. Will someone enlighten me about my issue. :) It would be really appreciated.
1. Adult dose of DPT. Do i need to have another shot?
2. MMr and Varicella. A certification from an MD would be enough? or do i need to have my IgG checked? :)
My visa is SHort stay visa, multiple entry. I got it on August 13.
Hi,
I had 1 cocktail dose of DPT & polio last month. Just make sure that it is properly documented. My doctor detached the label and put it on her prescription (RX) and signed it as proof.
MMR - I had a rubella IgG
Varicella - I had a medical certification that I had chicken pox at a particular date
Congrats on your visa. God bless on your bp. Will follow suit a week from your intake.

use google or go to NZ website to know more about their registration requirements.
after doing so and you still have questions, then i think it is the right time to ask questions/assistance.

Check the NZNC website. All the details and instructions are there. But I warn you. The situation in NZ right now is very tight, both for bp and job placements. I already had NZNC eligibility letter July last year. Until now, I could not get in a slot for the bp anywhere in NZ. I even asked for extension from the council and they granted me 6 months. I hired an agency last year at the cost of US $500 just to help look for a bp school but still no luck. Decided to apply for registration with AHPRA last Dec so I have a fallback option. Good thing got granted eligibility last month and I'm off to Melbourne end of this month for ETEA's Oct intake.
I also had 2 colleagues who've gone through the bp in NZ last year. Took them 5 months to find a job. And to think they had 3 years work experience in ER. They landed in a nursing home.
Wow!thats good on you. since you have been approved by aphra i have few questions for you if you dont mind. how many years of nursing experience do u have? is it paid or not? I have also another concern: aphra requires a nursing degree education "UNiversity-based", I finished a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a COLLEGE and not from a UNIVERSITY. What are my chances of being approved by APHRA? I hope you could help me.thanx!
It doesn't matter. I graduated from a university. My niece who is now working in Melbourne got her nursing degree from a college. It all depends on your course syllabus/prospectus and the total number of units and hours.

Hi joiemike!!! thankyou so much for the reply! :) I highly appreciate it.
I went to a doctor awhile ago and he said that dpt vaccine is only given to babies and isn't sure about its adult dose. And so I was really frustrated because it was stated in the forms that I should have one. I should seek another MD then =)
what you think? a pedia maybe? hmmm....
Again Thank you! And Godbless!
Thank you for all this inofrmation. I been reading this thread. and from what is see, Its like OZ Gives better opportunities than NZ? My brother and his family are in NZ already. The plan is upon approval of my application in NZ, i wil have to apply for a visit visa and personally look for a school for my CAP and then find a job eventually. But from what i understand from you, its very hard to find a job in NZ now even if your in NZ already and do have good credentials. "sigh" but thanks for the info thoug.. its well appreciated... thanks joeimike! :)

Hehehehe. Which doctor did you go to? I hope he/she is familiar with vaccines. I went to the pedia of my kids. It doesn't matter whether adult or child. She gave me the shots. She was also the one who administered my Mantoux Test.

He's a pulmologist. He did my TST too haha! He just told me a certification is enough. =( I should just seek another MD then, it would be safer I guess. =) haha! I'll figure it out, then share it here soon
Hi guys. This thread has been very informative as I am also applying for bridging.
My IELTS was accepted by AHPRA before it expired in April 2011 and so I still got the eligibility letter from them. The BP provider that I am currently contacting is accepting my expired IELTS. Can anyone advise me if IELTS is still needed for when I look for a job after BP? Will the hospitals/nursing homes need current IELTS?
Any response in regards to this is greatly appreciated. Cheers!
