New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

yeah, this is going to be a difficult one! well maybe i should just push through with the 1 year BP!

The 1 year bp you are referring to is the RN conversion program being offered by schools like Flinders Uni.

Anyway, what made you think that by going through that course, you will be able to skirt the IELTS requirement? Remember that it's AHPRA's requirement and not the bp schools. Schools don't care if you pass the minimum score for IELTS or not. What they are primarily after is your enrollment and tuition fee. That is why some schools accept enrollees without the IELTS Test Report Form. Kindly inquire from the schools if they can guarantee you the AHPRA RN license after their course. Ask them to make it in writing so you have proof... Then you can go ahead and enroll with them. If not, then, take it from the adage "buyers beware". ;)

I have a friend who's on the same boat enrolled at Flinders too, He's doing just fine. But i still have to think about it again, anyway i also have another friend who's in sydney enrolled in a uni but not with a BP and said she will retake ielts since she didn't get all 7, but that's after she graduates.

Oh, so you do understand that you still need the minimum 7 in all bands of the IELTS test after you graduate from a bp or conversion course. If you deem it better for you to go through the 1 year or even 2 year RN program, go ahead. It may very well help you with your English along the way. By the time you retake the IELTS, you will be more conversant and eloquent in English writing. Cheers mate. :yeah:

Hi there! I'm just a newbie here. :) Been reading this thread for a week now and I've acquired very useful information from the posts. Indeed, a very helpful guide to many Filipino nurses who want to work in OZ.

Just want to share to everyone that I have already an eligibility letter from AHPRA (thank GOD) sent to me last June 29. In addition, an offer letter from CON was also forwarded to me via post that I am accommodated on their Sept 26 intake. However, I have questions regarding the requirements of the NSW health dept, such as immunizations and the like. Will someone enlighten me about my issue. :) It would be really appreciated.

1. Adult dose of DPT. Do i need to have another shot?

2. MMr and Varicella. A certification from an MD would be enough? or do i need to have my IgG checked? :)

My visa is SHort stay visa, multiple entry. I got it on August 13.

Wow!thats good on you. since you have been approved by aphra i have few questions for you if you dont mind. how many years of nursing experience do u have? is it paid or not? I have also another concern: aphra requires a nursing degree education "UNiversity-based", I finished a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a COLLEGE and not from a UNIVERSITY. What are my chances of being approved by APHRA? I hope you could help me.thanx!

Hi there, thanks! :)

I am very happy to share that I had only more than a year of hospital experience from a government and private hospital (both tertiary), and it was unpaid. :D

I am not sure regarding the university-based thingy. Maybe anyone in this thread can give you an accurate answer to that. :redbeathe I finished my nursing from a university so I can't give a definite answer ;(

I guess anyone can be approved by the nursing board if you supply ALL the DOCUMENTS being asked. And ofcourse, the more hosp exp the better! 7 ielts is a also must. If you backtrack this thread, you will be able to find important information.

Godbless on your application.

Hi guys!

Anyone of you who will be having their BP in the CON on the 26th? Kindly PM me if you have time.

Godbless to all of us!

Hi! I am a Filipino nurse. I have read from APHRA's criteria that the Nursing Degree must be "University-based" I have finished my 4-yr Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a COLLEGE and not from a University. What are my chances to get the approval from APHRA?

I hope somebody can help me here.

Thanx!

ask AHPRA.

but i guess university = college. is there a difference between the two?

in addition, i think what they meant is that the applicant should have finished the BSN course in a classroom-based setting and not online; as we all know that there are some nursing schools (not here in the PH of course) that offer BSN degree online.
